2004 taillight issue

2004 Tacoma Pre Runner

passenger side driving light (brake) light doesn’t turn on only when I stop on brake it does come on / blinker works. Driver side works good it’s just the passenger side….does anybody have the light diagram?

I have a 2003 Tacoma base model and tried swapping out the taillights to troubleshoot it but it looks like the wiring is different. Can someone please help me troubleshoot this issue.

 

So you have no brake light on the passenger side?

03 and 04 should be the same but the left and right lights are wired differently.

 

I turn on lights w/o stepping on brk and only driver side works not passenger- I step on pedal and they both turn on - blinkers work.

issue is on 04 pre runner

03 is fine.

 

Sounds like one of the filaments is bad? Try a new bulb.

 

So you have no tail light on the passenger side?
Do the license plate lights work?

The rear lights on 1st gens are wired pretty funky, the Tail power goes to the Left tail light on Pin 2 (Green) and splits to the Left license plate light then a jumper in the Left tail light sends power out on Pin 6 (Green) to Pin 2 of the Right tail light where it splits off to the Right license plate light.

Ground comes into the Right tail light on Pin 3 (White/Black) and splits off to the Right license plate light, a jumper in the Right tail light sends it out on Pin 6 (White/Black) to Pin 3 (White/Black) of the Left tail light where it splits off to the Left license plate light.
