I had 25w Osram Halostars as was suggested here, and they work well for reversing. But I think I'll put in the VTAIL standards, to get the better Stop and Turn lights.
I'm going to add a hitch for light towing around town, the 2017 SR has no towing wiring harness, right? (It does have fuses and a relay in [Towing], [Towing Tail], {Towing Tail} slots, and in [Fog FR], {Fog FR} too.) So I will need to get a towing harness add-on kit. A VLED support guy says a towing harness kit and the VTAIL kit will work together OK - But I will have several T's, diverters, and relays, back behind the tail lights.
    Has anyone else done this?
Would anyone like to recommend an add-on trailer wiring harness?

Yeah the standard VLED kit is the way to go. Mine have been great for the past few years.

That was fast - they arrived today. Took me longer to get a ratchet and 10mm socket out of the toolbox than it did to install the kit. Thanks for everyone's input on these!

Installed the VTAILS Standard kit. It makes a huge difference. If you are considering this kit, don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed.

Get it now while the sale is on. Install was really easy and only took about 30 minutes.

I just installed their license plate backup light with the 7 pin connector. It works great, and only a 10 minute, extremely easy install. 20% off too.

Im always on the lookout for vtails upgrade while on the road. I have personally seen many more complete taillight aftermarket replacements than vtail upgrades on 3G tacomas. like 5 to 1... I love mine as an upgrade over stock.

I’m always looking as well and to my knowledge I’ve only seen two. One was a Meso back before VLEDS released their kit, and another I’ve seen more recently I’m not sure which brand it was but I feel like it was Meso due to the off turn signal timing. But I could be misremembering.

Way back as in 4 or 5 years ago Meso customs sold an LED taillight kit. I bought that one, the basic one. The bulbs in it were VLED so I believe it's the same as the VLED standard or very similar. It has the amber switch back bulb in the back up lights that replaces the red turn signal.
Mine is in an SR5 lens and looks good and bright. Definitely a big upgrade over the stock. They are much more visible day and night, the turn signals show up better too.
Also I will say zero issues with the bulbs or harness. They pass PA state inspections with no questions or anything about it not being stock.
Though the good Ole boy mechanics I go to aren't picky.

Ordered the standard VTAILS kit today. I don't like the way Toyota did the stop and turn signals. I guess I'll be looking for other Tacos running VTAILS now too.

In my area I have only seen 2 other Tacomas with these type of kits and had one other owner ask me in a parking lot after following me to the same store how I got my turn signals to work like that.

I find the factory taillights to be actively unsafe. The light from the blinker bleeds into the running light and it makes it difficult to quickly parse if someone is braking or turning. I personally believe that the shitty Tacoma brake lights has led to many totaled trucks based on that fact alone.

Way too few people run these kits. The only people I know who run them are me and a buddy I convinced to buy them. haha
