Hello, new to this and trying to do some research. I have 2012 trd off-road with fox 2.0 suspension (no lift). I have bad steering wheel shake left to right and the steering wheel feels responsive to bumps etc. I just had brand new tires put on (265/75/16) and rebalanced and alignment with no fix. What’s throwing me is it doesn’t do this non stop just half the time so whatever is causing it, is hard to pinpoint. Tie rod ends and ball joints feel tight (shop verified this on alignment) and don’t feel any play in wheel bearings. Was debating warped rotors or in driveshaft but don’t want to keep throwing money without being able to pinpoint it better. Any help is appreciated!

If it happens when you are not braking it isn't the rotors. Could be the steering rack bushings... there are a few threads on here describing how to test.

Appreciate it. Yes it’s not doing when braking. I will look for the threads. Driving me crazy for sure. Came from a 3rd gen Tacoma to 5th gen 4Runner to the 2nd gen as I wanted to go back to older, so familiar with Toyota trucks and this isn’t “common truck reel”. She will vibrate my hand on steering wheel. Lol

Did it do this before the new tires? If not I'd look there. Very possible to have a bad tire cause issues. You could try rotating fronts to back and see if anything changes.
If it's not associated with new tires, how are the shocks? is it violent shaking like a speed death wobble, or something mild.
    Does braking make it stop?

Yes it did do it before as well and not worse when braking maybe lightens up a little. She shakes pretty hard at times but not consistent. It’s so weird. Shocks are 2.0 and don’t know how old they are. They look good but they came from New Mexico so you don’t rough looking like up here in Michigan.

Does it seem like something sets it off, like hitting a bump.
Warped rotors will usually intensify a shake as brakes are applied.
Imbalanced drive shaft is felt more in your butt than the wheel.
I'd double check ball joints and tie rod ends. Have someone shake the wheel while you physically hold the joints. There should be zero slop.
Bounce check those shocks....I still have death wobble PTSD from a long ago jeep. lol

steering wheel feels definitely shaking at times line death wobble. I was question shocks myself as I don’t think they soft almost like they to tight or seizing up. I’ll check that and tie rod ends and ball joints again tonight. I mean I’m all for new shocks just have to get the wife to approve .
