It's just the computer goofing with you. Usually happens after filling up a tank and resetting the mpg tracker

I put about 28 bucks in my gas tank and I was going about 40mph in heavy rain on the highway and I switched to 4Hi and mpg just started climbing.

After 10mins I switched back over 2WD and set cruise control at 55mph and mpg shot up to 30.1mpg. This is a trick?

It's Friday; when all the crazy posts are made

For short distances anything is possible. My old Tacoma doesn't have that technology, but I once reset my trip meter on the way home from a camping trip in my F150. I got over 40 mpg over a 10 mile stretch pulling a trailer. It was actually coasting 10 miles off a mountain.

If you really want to see some serious numbers get on the interstate doing about 70. Reset the trip meter and let off the gas for 30 seconds. I've hit 100 mpg briefly.

Let us know your MPG once you drive at a normal highway speed such as 80mph.

Friday threads: MPG debates about 108 octane gas or using "alcohol" racing fuel, OCI (oil change interval) threads about basing oil change timing on your astrological zodiac sign, sharing a picture of a tiny scratch and asking "is it totaled?" ...

I've managed 36mpg for something like 20 miles, all down hill dropping in elevation from 6,000 ft to 2,000.
