So last week I started another thread trying to figure out a sloppiness in my drivetrain. I was starting to feel when I slowed down. I got some great feedback and things to look into! Took it to the dealer. The dealer told me it was all fine. It still doesn’t feel like it used to, and I also had a 2021 SR5 2wd before this one, for 55,000 miles. So I think I’m pretty comfortable with the way a 3rd gen Tacoma “should” feel.

So, I’ve also been fighting with a terrible set of Goodyear Duratrac tires that came with the truck. (Two of them have worn completely unevenly.) in an attempt to eliminate anything that could be causing what I’m feeling, I swapped back on a set of steelies I had from my old SR5.

When I swap tires yesterday I rotated the rear drum back-and-forth to check for anything that was loose and I shot this video quick. To me it just doesn’t feel or sound right. Looking for thoughts from people with experience working on their Tacomas? TIA!

[I did buy Mobil 1 gear oil to swap out this morning. But I realized I didn’t bring my toque wrench with me so I held off. I’m thinking when I change the fluid if there’s a serious problem going on inside, I should see some metal? But now I’m wondering—since the truck is only a few thousand miles out of warranty—if it turns out to be something serious will Toyota be more helpful toward my issue if I don’t drain the original differential oil that came in the truck?]
