    Hey Guys and Gals,
My 06 Tacoma is doing the gurgling, loosing coolant, multiple miss fire on cylinder#6 and generally ticking me off thing again. I know I gotta do the head gasket but need some advice. Just a little back ground if ya didn't see my previous post. At 250,000 I did head gaskets up on my truck due to a coolant leak into cylinder#6. Every wearable item from the gaskets up and out I replaced to include the oil pump. I now have 320000 on it. It still does not burn a drop of oil, the compression is within a single pound of each cylinder and no ticks or clicks at all and at 25 feet it still looks great. Not to mention a new frame from Toyota. My question is what causes this failure to begin with. Is it a defective gasket, a bad casting on the head or God forbid a bad casting on the block. I plan on tearing it back down and having the heads shaved this time and going back with a OEM gasket. I used felpro last time. UNLESS my Taco driving friends have had better luck going another route or bad luck going this route. Please advise :)

I would have used the OEM head gaskets because they were redesigned following 05-06 year failures.

320K is a lot of miles, even for a Toyota. How about a good used engine?

I'm shooting for 500,000 then a new one. I have the original sales contract from when I purchased the truck. As I was leaving the dealership I told the salesman that sold me the truck I would see him in a half a million miles. He said if I drove that truck back on the lot of the dealership with that many miles, he would give me the purchase price as a down payment on a new one. I accepted his challenge, and he even put a note of this deal in the contract. So, if this don't get me across the finish line a good used engine it is.

Put a straight edge on the block surface paying close attention to the area around #6.

The felpro head gasket was likely the mistake that caused it to fail again

What has been your coolant change interval? Are you using Toyota coolant?

With today's debt slavery inflation, whatever you paid in 2006 won't amount to much of a down payment when the time comes lol.

^^^ this ... time will tell, but I did have 0.007 shaved - if memory serves - and used OEM gaskets so crossing fingers.

Thanks Guy's for the input. My coolant change is every 50000 with Taco coolant. Yea the slave rate has me at about at 33% down payment if I make it to the 1/2 million mark. I'm defently having the heads shaved. I live 2 hours from Bristol Motor Speedway. I have a good friend that owns a machine shop there and does all of the Tri-Cities (Bristol, Kingsport and Johnson city) Toyota dealers machine work in the area. I'll keep you guys posted on the outcome. I'm going the do the tear down tomorrow, run the heads to Bristol after work Monday and hopefully put her back together the following Saturday. I just finished ordering all OEM parts for the job, cost me just change below $400.00. Luckly I can do the job myself. I was feeling a little lazy so I called the Kingsport Tn. dealership for a labor quote. They said $7400 and didn't even laugh, but I did.
