Also what kind of solder are you using? The plumbing crap you get at most hardware stores has a very high melt point as opposed to your hobbyist Lead/tin mix.

I didn't have a good soldering gun. Got a better one now and I have solder I bought from radio shack several years ago. My hands aren't the steadiest either. I will rig up something to do it.

U could also use a little piece of wire to jump it to make sure it's the right ones before soldering

for those who think its safe to do this because you park in the garage... I guess you never go to the mall? Its so handy to leave your address on your registration in your truck and a nice door opener. Your house is burglarized and your dog is sodomized before the movie lets out.

True, but same goes for having *any* standard garage door opener in your car. One advantage of taking the IoT route (with the caveat that you have to write the mcu firmware yourself or obtain it from a VERY trusted source -- because IoT shit you buy from china is NOT secure) is that you (a) keep the controller on your body (i.e., phone), and (b) is as secure as the software you write for it.

I have a smart garage opener from MyQ/Chamberlain but nothing fancy about my 2011 Tacoma... I'm thinking about splicing together one of those switches and shoving it in the dash but I wonder if there's a better solution.

Or maybe I can wire this to a switch...Screenshot_20250711_215001_Amazon Shopping.jpg
