11,000+ miles on my '24 Limited, smooth as silk with the transmission. Clunks a bit when shifting out of 4Hi sometimes.

Now I’m even more confused. Just went to the dealership during my lunch break and every single Tacoma and 4 runner has a transmission thermostat.

2024s or 2025s? Also, same trim levels?

Next Toyota will be adding an external cooler. With an 8spd there's probably a lot of shifting going on these transmissions probably produce a lot of heat with a load or towing.

Would you happen to know if the LC 250 had or now has the transmission thermostat?

Did any 4Runners not have the transmission thermostat? Since they are all 25s I know there are some late 24 production of 2025 models.

I mostly wanted to bring up the Land Cruiser 250 as I recently read there are some 2.4t engine failures associated with the LC 250.

I could have miss read and that was referring to global Land Cruiser with the ttV6, but the discussion looked to be about 2.4t. No mention of Tacoma engine failures that I saw.

Mine has the external trans cooler, open the hood look between the radiator and the engine on the left/passenger side. It’s small about 3x5 inches.

Maybe they all do. Does your's have the thermostat pictured?

The SR could be the exception and not have an external transmission cooler? I still don't know what's missing that gives the SR less cooling capacity, thought it was the turbo side and not the transmission. Could explain why Toyota is conservative with the tuning on the SR to preserve the transmission.

Same with the manual, I know Toyota stated drive line hammering on the manual, and I doubt the manual has a trans cooler, but that doesn't make sense and the manual isn't as detuned as the auto SR.

I can't remember is there a manual SR option? I can't recall seeing that availability.

SR doesn’t have it. It also has considerably less towing capacity.
