Can you feel the lock tab bending and releasing with a click sound? Does the tab not even bend down?

Its possible could be melted on there

I like a pair of push pin pliers with small jaws for stuff like that.

the tab bends a bit but i’m not hearing any clicking sound. it almost seems like the tab is just bent in at this point, which should in theory mean that i could just pull it out. tried channel lock pliers but no luck, don’t want to press too hard and break the plastic. is there any type of spray i could use to loosen it like wd40? i a have a replacement alternator so dont need this one, just don’t want to fuck up the connector

Yea spray some WD in there while wiggling the connector. If the tab is broke it'll wiggle but the lock end wont release

And try to push in a bit while pushing the tab down

You can try a tool like this: https://www.amazon.com/UCELICE-Electrical-Disconnect-37980-Tools,Electrical/dp/B0DMDX3531/ Also available locally as Lisle 37980.

You are pressing down on the rear end of the tab to lift up the front like a seesaw. Try slipping a 90-deg pick under the tab, as far forward as possible, and flick it up.

There may be pressure on the connector causing the locking tab to not release, so when pressing down on the tab, wiggle it into the alternator and then try to remove it.
