Turns out Toyota put a LOT of lemons on the road which now have rusted frames.

Toyota will not help, even though it is a recognized manufacturing defect.

We used to believe in Toyota reliability, but no more.

This is unfortunately an issue that's commonly known, but to Toyota's credit they did take full accountability for it. They agreed to pay a few billion dollars to either buy back or replace frames on affected trucks, and I think that was good for up to 15 years after the manufacture date. Didn't like the answers in the other thread? As stated in both threads: Toyota admitted there was a problem and was more than generous with their resolution.

It blows me away how many people don't run their car through a car wash in the winter and then wonder why their vehicle gets destroyed by rust. And vehicle rust isn't a new thing.

 

I know someone who needs his GM midsize frame worked on its not only Toyota. Toyota Tacomas are notorious for rust, the 4G should tell the tale if Toyota is serious about making improvements in that category.

I heard of a trick where you purposely loosen the valve cover bolts a bit so the oil drips down onto the frame and gives it a coating that offers some protection. Plus it's right on the front section of frame by the converters where rust is usually the worst
