This is probably it and I would have never thought about checking cam timing. There is no cam crank correlation code for this model. I am curious if the emmission sticker mentions EGR like Fords do, they do the same thing with cam timing for EGR. Live and learn.

You might need to find a state where emissions are exempt after a certain amount of years or no inspection at at all.

When you say "find a state", do you mean literally move to a different state? or find a way to register my vehicle at an address in another state like montana or something?

I had an old '87 22RE. Met this Toyota girl and she told me to run 91 premium in my tank and run it hard. She said it would burn hotter and clean up any built up Carbon. Did it and i passed the next 2 weeks lol

Not sure if it will work in your situation. but it did for me. good luck

I use 93 octane for my 2001 Tacoma with 262000 miles on it. If I use 87 octane my Tacoma will let me know immediately.

In Massachusetts we have 87, 89, and 93 octane. Every now and then I see 91 octane

There are non attainment jusrisdictions in CA that if you own land and have PO box that you register your vehicles at you can avoid smog, but, and this is big but, your auto insurance company might not like it. The same thing goes with registering a vehicle out of state and driving it in CA. I know that Montana and South Dakota do not require residency to register cars there.

Icon/TC Mid travel, TRD S/C, PNP Greddy EMU, 625cc injectors, 2.2 pulley, Hayden tranny cooler, AEM wideband, TRD boost gauge.
In the harbor gateway near San Pedro there is a VP station with 100 octane. I put it in my CBR600RR.

For the Taco I just use 91 (Supercharged) or sometimes E85 now that I have the remote map switch working on the Greddy EMU. E85 is like half the cost of 91 so the reduced MPGs are acceptable vs. 100 octane is like $20+

California has been cracking down on the “Montana loophole”.

I know Vermont has closed the loop hole there. Massachusetts is not bad. Anything over 15 years old is exempt from emissions. There has to be a state that still has a loophole

Didn't know there was a 100 octane. I bet everyone's tacomas would run awesome. Not for 20 dollars a gallon.

The check engine light comes on immediately after about 35 miles. Plus it hesitates and idles like shit. The low octane gas in Massachusetts is complete garbage.
