All started when I had my battery die . Woke up in the morning and my battery was dead truck wouldn’t start . Disconnected my sound system positive wire . Changed battery and haven’t had any issues with the battery yet but my display screen keeps going black when I start the truck . Doesn’t happen everytime . Went to the dealer to
Have them take a look and they said it’s probably the soundsystem . That it’s messing with the passive by pass filter or something . I’m calling bull. Any idea what to do here guys or what is wrong . I checked fuses , battery, did a hard reset . I brought it to the dealer and they did the same thing and charged me 200$ told me to come back and pay 400$ for more in depth check . Some times as I open the door I get my screen back . This still happens with or without the sound system positive wire on the battery . Any idea guys I’m stressed here . I’m from Toronto if anyone knows where I can bring the truck that be great . I have warrenty on the truck but the dealership is going to use the soundsystem as a excuse not to warrenty it

That may or may not be something that is straghtforward to diagnose.

Does the entire cluster go dead or just the display?

Does anything else on the truck not work when it's blank?

Aftermarket radio? If so is it tied into the CAN bus?

I assume the battery was old enough to not be a surprise it died. For future reference, if you do not have one, get a NOCO GB40 battery boost because any battery can die for odd reasons.

Th battery cables may be corroded or faulty after so much time. The dead battery may be the culmination of many age-related battery issues. But a bad battery cable can deliver less-than-optimal power and cause the ECU to shutdown various/random components until everything comes back to normal.

@Dm93 cluster is good rpm and gauge work fine . Everything else in the truck works fine when it screen goes blank . . Stock radio. Screen goes blank right away after start up and will come back after I shut it down and wait a few minutes.

That sounds like an issue with the cluster itself but I'd get the battery checked or replace it if it's getting old, low battery voltage or voltage spikes from a bad battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins on modern vehicles.

Another vote for replacing the battery with a new one. This has nothing to do with the sound system.

Have you checked the new battery with a multimeter to make sure it's fully charged?

I’m not sure if the dealer checked that . I did ask them to . I’ll run by my buddy’s shop and ask him to test it

I would replace the battery cables as well. Having a failed power system 2 AM on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere is bad.

I don't think battery cables are an issue here. Could be a connection issue with the display or defective display.

OK. You probably know more than I. Just adding my off-thoughts.

I need to record American Ninja Warrior on my BetaMax tape machine ...
