Hi everyone, I have a 2001 Toyota Tacoma with a 6 inch rough country lift. I’m looking for new tires but, I’m wondering if I can run 35’s with the wheel setup I have now without trimming, rubbing, or modifications? I believe the wheels I have is the “ SCS Stealth 6 17x8.5 -10”. What’s the biggest tire I can run with this setup? Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thank youIMG_5284.jpgYes, it’s 2wd

You can make any size fit with some elbow grease

but 35 should be no issue with 6” DB lift

    Welcome to TW.

It depends a bit on what you’re doing with your truck. I’m guessing you’re not doing a lot of offroading with 2wd, so if you’re not flexing out the suspension regularly then 35’s will probably fit fine. It may rub a bit in the frame at full lock, depending on the wheel backspacing.

More importantly is the gearing though. 35’s will be a major power suck with 4.10 gears and NA v6/auto transmission. You may not like the way it drives very much.

Hi, thank you for the advice and information. I do little to no off-roading. Would there be a difference in power related to the gearing if I would to go with a 34in tire (315/70/17)? Also, I’m trying to avoid using a spacer. If that helps with narrowing down to what tire I should get.

A 34 will be a little better than a 35, as far as “perceived power loss”. The 3.4L only puts out 190 hp if it’s not supercharged, which doesn’t go very far with stock gearing. So without re-gearing or adding forced induction, your throttle will be more like an on/off switch.

There’s nothing wrong with spacers, if you use quality ones. They may not be necessary to avoid rubbing with a 6” DB, I’m not that familiar with that style lift.

Assuming you're in Hawaii, the land of the drop bracket lift. Almost every Tacoma I saw last time I was there had a DB lift. There must be a huge pile of cut out OEM cross members somewhere...

Anyway, in an attempt to be helpful, I used to run metric 33s when I wheeled a lot more, and I wouldn't wanna go any bigger than that with stock gears. Is it doable, yes. But it'll be pretty painful... Luckily, for you, you'd only have to regear one diff, so it's only 1/2 the hit to wallet compared to a 4x4.

What spacers would you recommend? I’m thinking that going with 34’s or 35’s tires might not be the way to go.

Ahh I see, so maybe 33’s and a spacer should be good for the look I want. I think that is too much work to do if I want to run 34’s or 35’s and it’s only 2wd. Thank you for your help!

The spacers are mainly to prevent frame rub, if you’re running 33’s or 34’s you probably don’t need them. Unless you want a little more tire poke. I wouldn’t go more than 1.25” or 1.5”, stick to quality brands like Spidertrax or BORA.

I do want more tire poke. I currently have 285/70/17's on right now. They stick out a little bit, but adding a spacer with 33's will do it for me. Thank you again for your help!
