Little project tonight. I've been thinking about the screenprotech products but couldn't decide between HD and anti-glare (matte) and wasn't interested in spending the money to test both. I'd ordered a roll of 3m PPF intending soon to put it at least on the hood/bumper region and rear quarterpanels. So I thought, maybe I'll just try it as a screen protector. What can go wrong? Well in my projects plenty, but thankfully nothing tonight.

First attempt ended up somewhat mangled so I took the backing from the first piece and made a useful template. The hole for the knob was really the trickiest part, and each time I took a sliver more off, it was still not enough. A couple of pieces of double sided tape, a straight edge and blade and voila. A near perfect piece, that still needed a bit of hole trimming.

Is it perfect and professional looking? Certainly not. If I re-do it I'll be more meticulous about the button hole. But for a short evening project to get me outside, and save a bit of money, and make me smile each time I look at it? It's perfect.

Next step, gauge cluster and maybe all those other tiny shiny surfaces.

By the way, I didn't search to see if this is already a thing. If it's already well documented, I apologize for the repetition, and please just move on instead of posting "don't you know how to use the search function?"

I think it's a good idea. I would use a thinner version than I used on my bed sides so it diminishes the sensitivity of the touch screen as little as possible.

Frankly didn't even look into thickness when I ordered it. This is 6 mil. Hadn't considered the sensitivity issue, but just went and checked. No change in screen sensitivity with this thickness.

seems like you can make the hole for the volume knob post a fair bit smaller if you do it. That'd make the hole much less visible.

Yes as long as you never want to use the press function of the power/volume knob that would work. But the press function requires the button to go past the surface of the screen so it binds up the PPF and distorts it.

FYI - $16 from Amazon will give you this.
Not sure how smooth it is to glide and touch the screen with the ppf film. I’d imagine it isn’t as smooth as a screen protector is but I ordered my 14” screen protector for my truck and the touch and feel is smooth like butter with no finger prints.
