Does anyone know what bulbs are used for the instrument panel indicator lights on a 2001 Tacoma? These are the lights below the four instrument cluster lights that everyone replaces to change the color of the gauges. The bulbs light up things like the check engine and low oil pressure indicator lights.

I have a 2004 and when I replaced the instrument cluster lamps they were 194 or you can use 168. The CEL, low oil light and low fuel etc. they’re a lot smaller than the cluster lamps.

In my ‘99 the large lights were 194 and small indicator lights were 74

So yes, I find that most of the small bulbs in black sockets are 74s (14V @ 1.4W), and I replaced these with 90981-11018s I got from the dealer. (They were actually less expensive than Sylvania 74s.) There are two bulbs in gray sockets (84999-04030) that are 12V @ 1.5W that I was also able to get from the dealer. Then there's one other bulb in a gray socket (90011-11004) that's slightly larger than a 74 and rated at 12V @ 3W. This one's for the low fuel indicator, and it's been discontinued. I found a thread in which someone recommended a 2821 bulb as a replacement, but the 2821 is too large for the socket. Not sure what to do about that one.

If you find the low fuel light indicator bulb please update. When I replaced the instrument panel lamps I couldn’t find a low fuel lamp. I never get that low on fuel anyway so I haven’t really worried much about it.

It’s not plug and play but most bulbs can be replaced with an led and appropriately valued resistor if they are no longer available. I’ve done this both with smd and wire lead leds.
