just checking in. Work is taking over.

Anyone here ever done the houseboat on a lake thing? As a New Englander, despite lots of lake time, houseboats were never a thing. Even with decades of recration in Illinois and Michigan....never saw it. I was invited last weekend to Dale Hollow on the Kentucky/Tennessee border. It's like an alternate universe. Hundreds of them. They're floating mobile homes...much bigger and well equipped than luxury RV's. They store at the dock, then they depart, find a piece of shore, run themselves onto the beach (45,000 lb boats mind you, driven, in this case, by a small block Chevy) where they sit and party for a few days. Unwritten rule: you stay away from one another. It's all first come first served, but once an area is claimed...stay away.

I've never run a houseboat on to a beach but I did run a 24' onto a sandbar near a nuclear power station on the Connecticut River. Their security people were unamused by my seamanship.
