I saw this Toyota antenna on ebay and was wondering if anyone has done DIY replacement for 2005 Tacoma antenna?

Like drilling new antenna hold on the roof and install this

I haven't seen anyone tackle something like this but I dig it! Tricky part would be filling the hole in the quarter panel cleanly. Weld in a patch, a bit of filler, and some blending. I'm not a paint and bodywork guy but anything can be done.

I’ve not had an antenna for years, just never replaced it after my kid took it as a plaything. Radio still picks up fine though

I love my 2005 taco which has over 330K and running like the day I drove it off the dealership lot at 7 miles odometer reading. Just wanted to prep it up a bit for fun. haha

Thanks for all your feedbacks and inputs!

    cheers

    Can't wait to start!
Every other vehicle I've seen a sharkfin antenna on it was for XM radio, it might not work for AM/FM. I did a quick search and Toyota doesn't state what band it's for.

Drilling holes in your roof for something that already works fine sounds like a bad idea. If you don't get that thing sealed up perfectly you will wind up with a stained headliner, and whatever other issues come up from the water intrusion.

It's doable and not really that difficult as long as you make sure to fully seal the hole you'll need to drill into the roof. You will need adapters for the antenna to work, Toyota changed the connection on the back of the radio. You'll also need to run power to it as these types of antennas are powered to help compensate for their shape. And as already mention you'll need to figure out what to do with the stock antenna and hole in the fender, unless you just plan on leaving it there and having two antennas on the truck.
