    Goddamn pests :annoyed:

    Story Time with Gritto

The deer come down the mountain and damage my apple trees, eat my hostas and cucumber plants...
It didn't used to be this way.
You know what the problem is?

The younger generation is a bunch of pussies, that's what.
It was a rite of passage to manhood for a youth to go deer hunting with an older relative (father, uncle, cousin).
    The tradition was passed on.
Not enough of them are doing that anymore.

Once upon a time it was tough to get extra tags, but no more.
Now they can hardly give them away.

Consequently, the deer get more and more brazen

My deer hunting days are over.
I ain't up for it and never liked venison much anyway.
I've tried that peppermint smelling deer repellent stuff you spay on plants.
Too little and it doesn't deter, too much and it kills the leaves.

Just last week I pinked one in the ass with my BB gun, and don't mind admitting it.
Deer have pretty tough hides, but if it penetrated, okay.
She sure jumped and so far hasn't been back.
So I bet that hurt :)

When my boss cut off our coffee tab at the nearby coffee shop [that makes actual good coffee] and replaced it with a drip POS
I started just bring my own espresso con leche in a mason jar

I did take the bialetti to work once but that was more of a PITA so chilled it was

My dog usually pees around my garden space...
He didn't for a few days and guess what???
Those fucking deer ate my okra and took chunks out of my tomato plants

So now I make sure my dog pees on the edges once a day

Our office has those machines with the little drop in "bags" with the plastic tips. I forget what they are called.

I work at North Hills so Jubala is across the road and Starbucks is downstairs in front of the hotel.

I used to use a K machine - I had my own in my office.

I should donate this to Goodwill since I don't use it anymore. It's this very color.

Don't get me wrong, bringing my pourover gear to work is not fun but it is what it is. I'm not buying a 2nd set up!

Yeah you pour to the desired fluid size - You use a ratio; so for this brew, I did 21g of beans, 320g water, that's a ratio of 15.2. The lower the ratio the higher the strength the coffee is.

You also use the scale to weigh the beans for your recipe/desired dose.

the scale also tells you your brewing time....this helps you with diagnosing a brew that stalls while pouring your water in, and gives you a guide, if the flavor is correct, helps you troubleshoot a bad brew.
Bitter - overextracted - too much contact time with the water
Sour - underextracted - too little time in contact with the water - coffee will taste bodiless and flat/watery

I get that. I've been drinking pourover/3rd wave since 2015 - Tampa had THE best shop.

I started doing my own in 2020. It took me a good few months to get close to what the shops can do. 5 years later, my skills and palette are pretty much on point. I don't think I'm at "10,000 hours" yet but you never know.

I always tell people once you drink pourover, you can't go back to drip or gas station coffee.
