Do leaf springs need to be replaced? 99 Tacoma 2WD

    Hi All. New here and new to working on my 99 2WD Tacoma.

    When I load it up for camping the bed gets pretty close to the wheels to the point I can’t take a full load of gear.

    I considered installing sumo shocks but I’m wondering if I should take it to a shop and have the leaf springs replaced? Photos are with no load in the back, when loaded they flatten out even more. What do you think? If I do replace them should I go stock? I don’t tow anything just go camping occasionally.

    Springs are a wear item and do require maintenance. The load they have to carry and the terrain they carry that weight on play a role in how long they last. 135K seems like a long ways to me but it all depends on the use they have seen. FWIW, I replaced my OEM springs at 86K.

    Did you replace them yourself? I considered it but have heard sometimes they can be a pain. Watched a vid and one of the bolts was completely seized and the guy had to cut through it to place the new spring on the attachment.

    Yeah, that can happen. One of mine had to be cut off. Not that big of a deal if you know it can happen and are prepared for it.
