I need to replace the rusted and leaking oil pan on my 2005 V6. Do I need to use a gasket or just a silicone like hondabond? Most of the youtube videos show just a sealant but rockauto has gaskets. Thanks

How good are you at making RTV gaskets? I feel like premade ones exist for people who might not get a continuous bead of coverage.

Factory uses RTV typically since its cheaper and there is a robot that can apply it perfectly.

In the past I've used both a gasket and RTV (on a diff cover, different vehicle) and it held up fine.

I've used RTV plenty of times. I may use both for piece of mind. Also it looks like there are 10 bolts an 2 studs with nuts holding the pan on. The nuts on the studs are almost completely rusted off. Does anyone know what that part number or size those nuts and studs are? I cant find any online.

Just do what the manufacturer did at the factory

Silicone sealant in between 2 dry, clean and flat surfaces is about as good a seal as you'll get

Rockauto sells whatever people will buy, doesn't necessarily mean thats the correct part for the repair
