I actually had something like that in mind, but kinda difficult to convey in a short phrase.

They have "Living History Interpreters" at Gettysburg National Military Park.
I think that's what they're calling them.

At Granite Farm there's a guy who does farmer tasks and blacksmithing in period appropriate clothes.
In the farmhouse is a woman doing quilting and cooking on a wood stove, stuff like that.

There are Park Rangers, who are historians who lead battlefield walks in various areas.
They go over what happened and where in astonishing detail.
You can view these battlefield walks on YouTube.

Then there are the fellows in period uniforms that give talks.
Dunno if those guys are paid or enthusiasts volunteering or what.

All the above goes on in late Spring through early Autumn.

Then there are the registered guides that you mentioned.
Not as cool, IMO, as the other possibilities I mentioned.

 

My dad LOVED the War of Northern Aggression
My grandpa lived in N Va . . . .
Every summer we'd go to my grandpas and then my dad would want to take me and my brother on an 'adventure'
This 'adventure' was being stuck in the car or staring at some fucking field while some old man kept babbling on about the War of Northern Aggression
I would imagine bodies strewn about the field but that is as far as I got
My brother and I would beat the shit out of each other b/c we were so mind numbingly bored

Every summer, 1 whole day, been to probly every battlefield within an unreasonable driving distance from my grandpa's place
It will be a cold day in hell when I do that again!

 

We have Farm Heritage Day here by me
We have an old steam engine saw mill - they fire that thing up and getting it running, it is cool AF
They also let me walk all around it, get close to the dangerous stuff - just told me to be careful cause I was wearing sandals LOL
They had a dude walking behind two draft horses plowing a field - I can only imagine how hard that must have been to do it all day
We got a tobacco dryin hut
An old single room farmhouse
and a butt ton of tractors along with some American Muscle cars b/c

I usually go on a Sunday mornin when it is not busy
