Does anybody have any good recommendations for replacement headlight bulbs for the Gen4?
My TRD Sport headlights in both low beam and high beam seem to be a bit dim, and they are way too cool in temperature for my liking. I was wondering if there are any bulbs out there that would boost brightness a bit and maybe have a warmer temperature. Also, are High CRI (Color Rendering Index) LEDs a thing for headlights?
    Thanks for any help!!!

4th gens already have LED headlights, you can't replace the bulbs. You would have to replace the entire headlight assemblies.

I wouldn’t say my headlights are dim but I do agree there’s really not much difference between lo and hi beams. Having the fog lights on in conjunction with the headlights might help

calling these headlights dim is crazy, these things are so bright most of the time. I would understand the need for more light if you live in an area where there aren't many lights but even then I feel like these are adequate enough.

I've not been behind the wheel of a 4th-gen yet, but I have been a 2020 Camry, and a 2024 4Runner, and i agree with OP, the LED light color leaves something to be desired.
Seems both OEMs and offroad light manufacturers like the cold-white chips for some reason.

    This.
OP you might take yours into the dealer and have them check. I don’t know if we all have the same lights but on my 24 Sport Premium my lights are so bright at least once a light I get flashed because they think my brights are on and then are adjusted to the lowest setting. 24 Camry of my wife doesn’t come close to being as bright.

Isn't it only a cut off sheild that prevents the entire projector from emitting light when on low beam? When high beam is selected the low is probably drowned out. Proper headlight assemblies have a seperate low and high beam reflector and dedicated bulb. Look at the upper trim 6G 4Runners for an example. Toyota missed the mark on the 4G headlight design and should be reminded of that constantly. Every 4G including the Limited and halo trucks get SR spec lightning, those upper trims are the exception with the switch back DRL/sequential signal but it's the same mediocre hi/lo projector

Even on the low setting you get flashed because of the height of the light not the brightness. Fixed projectors also shine too high into oncoming vehicles when the road elevation is constantly changing and other vehicles sit lower in the beam spread. Projector LED on trucks need to be active to accommodate road elevation.

Cooler color temp chips are brighter at a given wattage. Look at candela and lumen output for 2500K (warm white) versus 5000K or even 6000K. When HID's were the gold standard (think RX350 HID projectors), those came in at 4300K and were considered among the best outputting OEM setups. Personally I agree, a 4000K-ish chip would be so much better, but it just wouldn't have the output and reliability at this point.

They also have a purple or bluish hue and that's the DRL which I would think is dimmed. Could be that they are angled up same as the high beam. Bring Back The Incandescent Amber DRL! I think Toyota uses the LED DRL to gain better fuel economy.

The brightness difference is not very much (maybe 15% at 4000 vs. 6000K). The improvement in yellow light output would more than make up for that anyway (the human eye is more sensitive (and less glare-prone) to yellow-green light than it is to the intense blue that cold-white chips mostly put out at). They'd still be far brighter than almost any halogen light.

Yeah, the drl's with that purple/blue hue look like some of the cheap Amazon eBay 'eye-strain' crap we've been seeing on the road the past few years.

The factory leds in my 2021 Tacoma were better. The 2024 was a downgrade. I knocked the cut line to 1 to give oncoming traffic a break. I also have amber tint on my fogs. Nobody flashes me anymore and I see fine at night.

according to iihs Toyota went backwards with the benchmark results:
    https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/Toyota/tacoma-crew-cab-pickup/2022#headlights
they also include the standard 3gen halogens

    Good but not perfect.

I have a 22 Pro and SR5 with the halogens. With the Pro leds, trying to find a street sign out in the country with no street lights can be a challenge…bring a flash light.

The other thing with me and the led headlights on the 22 Pro is seeing the colors of the painted lane stripes, hard to differentiate white and yellow markers …Why I noticed this: there’s a stretch of hwy in Cali 108/120 that transitions to and from 2 lanes to divided 4 lanes, the division between east and west bound traffic can be as much a 1/4 mile, so I was on the road one night and totally lost track on weather I was driving the 2 lane or the 4 lane portion of the hwy.

And while the leds are much brighter than the halogens on my sr5 ….I do like the lantern/candle flamed color and wide fov of the halogen lights ….but I do love the led drl's and turn signals of the Pro.

The SR should come with fog lights as standard equipment since the headlights are not the greatest.

4G should also get better headlights with a dedicated highbeam. People talk about features for the money, well the headlights that happen to be standard equipment are a down grade all the way around compared to the out going model.

    Edit

I don't want to wait around for a refresh. 2027 is far enough away for Toyota to put the dual beam head lights on all 4G Tacomas and 6G 4Runners.
