    Compressor not working
    Took to local mechanic
    Here is the breakdown
Remove & Replace Receiver Drier $300
Remove & Replace AC Compressor $372
Remove & Replace Evaporator Expansion Valve $840
    AC compressor kit $563.96
    Parts = $563.96 Labor = $1512.00
Apparently you have to remove the dash radiator/fan etc to get to the ac compressor
Can anyone verify this? And is this price on par with others who have had similar job done - thanks

    Sounds about right to me

The expansion valve is behind the dash
The condenser is between the headlights
The compressor is down low on the side of the engine

Sounds like you had a compressor fail and there's metal in the system. Sounds like they want to do everything

Some other shops may claim to be cheaper but theyre likely just not being as complete.

Whether or not to do the complete job or try to save money is up to you. Yes there are flush kits available but the only way for a shop to truly guarantee all the metal is out of there (and protect the new compressor) is to replace everything

    Good luck

You don't need to remove the dash to get to the expansion valve, it can be accessed through the firewall from the engine bay. I'm not sure why Toyota says you have to pull the dash to change it, you don't. Only reason to pull the dash would be to change the evaporator itself.
There is also a filter in the line in front of the expansion valve that should be cleaned/replaced.

Beyond that the rest of it sounds about right, drier is built into the condenser.

Only have to remove dash if you are replacing the evaporator. Ask me how I know!

I have to get my AC system worked on. First shop I talked to wanted 7 or 11 hrs for the expansion valve only. They said the dash has to come out it’s a 2013. Not sure if they were right but seems like it can be accessed under the hood without dash removal no?

Yes it can be removed from under the hood, I had one out on a 13 a few weeks ago that had a leak on one of the seals.

just heard back from my shop. They want to replace compressor, condenser, belt; and they said my idler pulley? I believe they said it was moving side to side? I could have misheard them 83k miles 4.0
