    Hi

So, I got my jba upper control arms installed. Everything went pretty well I think. Except one part has me thinking. The ball joint adapter, the piece that you press into the knuckle/spindle.

This truck is in excellent condition and only has about 70,000 miles of easy driving from my senior father. The spindle adapter area seems like it's in great shape and it took a bit of effort with the ball joint press to press the adapter.

However, when I was torquing the nut to 60 ft lb, right as I got close to that torque value the adapter turned/spun ever so slightly. Not the bolt, I was able to hold that just fine with a wrench. But the adapter. My gut is telling me that is probably not good.

What would you all do? I could replace the entire spindle. Which is obviously something I would like to avoid if I can.

I was thinking about ordering another adapter piece and seeing how it fits, with the hopes that maybe this one was just a manufacturer defect or something.

Or I could just leave it how it is and put some nail polish on the spindle and the adapter and keep a close eye on it to see if it ever moves.

    Option 3: just watch it

I doubt it ever moves like that under normal suspension articulation

That is what I'm thinking. I have no idea though. I found one Facebook post where this person had theirs fall out essentially. Broke through the thin snap ring. He said it was pretty loose when installing it tho. Definitely don't want it to fall out.
    I do light off roading

Worst case throw a thick weld along the edge of that adapter and then its never coming off. But again doubt thats necessary

This is what JBA said and had me a little nervous
"When you can turn something the diameter of the ball joint adapters with only 60ft/lbs of torque the press is actually very light and not at all what it needs to be for this application. The solution is to replace the worn knuckles with new Toyota units. You`ll find that the adapters press in much harder and would be impossible to turn even with twice as much torque. I know that`s not what you`d like to hear but that`s the correct answer."

I'm having a local Toyota shop alignment on Thursday. I will run it by them and see their opinion as well.

    Thanks for replyin!

Yea thats probably also a reduce liability (CYA) answer from them too. Good luck with whatever route you go.
