What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

May have the part you need. I have one laying around that the motor burned up.

Any chance your wheel bearings were done recently? Pretty important to have the ring pressed on in the correct place.

Replaced the rear brake drums, shoes, all associated springs, pins, adjusters, bell cranks, and both parking brake cables.

I was in a hurry so, didn't spend a ton of time comparing the Napa adjusters to the OEM adjusters, but something was up with the Napa ones where they would always advance a tooth resulting in the shoe always being over adjusted.

For anyone else replacing the forward parking brake cable, just know it sucks. The rear one isn't so bad- just one bolt that was a pain to get a wrench on next to the gas tank. But man, the front one sucks. Ended up having to remove way more interior panels than I planned on. And then the final nut for the parking brake assembly is on the firewall in the engine bay. Once it was out, gave the whole assembly a nice clean and re-lube.

Also tackled the last of the wiring I did 20 years ago when I did my sub install. 2-gauge wire.. like that was making my little 10" sub hit harder... Got rid of that, installed a nice fuse block under the dash for sub, and some other accessories I have added over the years. Nice and tidy now, solder and shrink wrap or crimped connectors where applicable over twisted wires and e tape

Unfortunately, while doing the brakes found that one of my axle seals was letting gear oil through. Looks like the wheel bearing is bad, as there is some slight movement on that side vs the other good side. So, I just ordered all the stuff to replace the wheel bearing. Thankfully I have all the tools to do the work myself, cause otherwise I don't know how I would afford shop labor rates...

 

Spindles and lower control arms came back from the machine shop. New Bushings, bearings, and backing plates installed.

 

Can anyone let me know what battery group (34 or 35) for 2003 Tacoma 4x4 DCSB 3.4l auto.

Can look this up at Costco that also sells interstate batteries. Think it's 24f.

 

35 or 24F... Both are spec'd
