So I have tried to replace diver side and passenger side exterior door handles. But once I installed them, it didn’t fix the problem. What I noticed was that the lever on the new handle that is suppose to push down the part that releases the lock, it pushes it out instead and the lock doesn’t release. Any suggestions?

When you say "lock" do you mean the latching mechanism? The door handles don't affect the locks at all.

I have always taken the latch assembly out completely, cleaned it, greased it, tested it and reinstalled it. Yes kind of a pain but when I am done it is a 1 finger lift to open the door.

Yes I guess I do mean the latching mechanism @glwood6. I will take a picture when I get back home of what I am talking about or video.

Why did you replace the pull handles? Is this issue the same as before you replaced the handles?

If the answer to my second question is yes then I suspect your problem is the latch mechanism.

The issue is not the same. The actual handle broke which is why I was replacing them.

So all the work done was only these two exterior handles? The interior handles were not removed or adjusted to aid in the exterior door handle R&R?

Over the years I've replaced a lot of broken door handles for the fleet I'm responsible for. Learned early on that the issue was almost always worn door hinges.

Door hinges wear. Doors sag. Guys start pulling up on the door handle when they close the door to make it close right. Eventually the exterior door handle breaks.

Not saying that's this case....but it wouldn't hurt to check.

If the handles are original... 20 years is a pretty good run, if they are 3 years old, there is a problem.
