Hi I was driving home last night and got a warning message with a bunch of lights. " system stopped front radar in self calibration. see owners manual. Manual says this is when something is blocking one of the sensors either on the windshield or front bumper- There are no obstructions yet the error message wont go away. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Where are you loacted? Ive have that happen with the extreme heat here in vegas a couple times now this summer. Had the issue with my 3rd gen as well but it happened quite more often. these are 110+º degree days so thats what i attributed it to

well I can tell you what the dealer is going to say whether or not its been like that for awhile. perhaps someone nudged you in a parking lot to move it more than what originally broke it.

try wiping it with a wet rag, but like the post above said.....dealer is going to say it is damaged due to impact.

Still no luck- disconnected the battery, cleaned all sensors, fished around with the sensor.. next plan of action is taking the bumper off to make sure all connections are tight and secure.

all else I take it to Toyota next week. Really a bummer!

Don't touch it and for sure don't take the bumper off. That will be all the dealer needs to charge you for messing it up :spending:\

It should be under warranty, use the warranty.

think about it. that sensor is so sensitive they dont want you to paint it... says right on it... if that's the case then any damage to its mount or miss alignment of the mount could cause any number of concerns..
unless the codes have nothing to do with that center sensor Toyota is Definitely blame it on the being broken weather or not that is actually the problem

Many paints are not transparent to radar and the average person won't know which are not. So not painting it is the easy solution.

There is supposedly some wrap material that can go over the proximity parking sensors. I don't know if it can go over the front radar sensor. They had a handful of vehicles at work that got wrapped in that material. One vehicle had issues with the sensors or the safety system it self as all of the other vehicles didn't have the issue. Presumably the sensors do in fact work through the wrap matterial, do to potential liability issues they had the wrap cut around the sensor so they were not blocked by the material.

That looks like it could be from a rock kicked up from the road that hit it... It's possible your insurance might cover that.
