You know you've had a bad day when you pull the steel trap up and get away, only then to get caught in a snare :) And you thought you were having a bad day

    Things are starting to change.
May not be a big deal, but it's the first time resident lone Doe was "allowed" to hang out with Mama and Skipper.

Painted my beloved .243 over the weekend (pink camo) to pass down to my daughter! I got it at as a Christmas gift when I was a kiddo. Parents bought it from our local hardware store for next to nothing. Its been a faithful little rifle, and has dropped every deer its harvested, within 30 yds of where they stood (besides the 1 time I made a bad shot/shot over ones back). Its nothing fancy, it isn't a major brand, has a cheap $30 scope, and doesn't carry any cool long family history - but the sentiment and family history has to start somewhere right? Anybody have any tips or tools of choice for carving/engraving a name somewhere on a rifle?

How steady of a hand do you have? A carving bit on a dremel, (looks like a cone but has the little flaps similar to a wood rasp) a stencil, and some patience will go a long way.

I played Operation once or twice as a kid, but thats been some many years ago :anonymous:. I'm sure I could practice with a dremel on some spare plastic somewhere. That sounds like a more refined idea than carving with a knife:notsure:

Problem with a knife is I’d end up getting stitches at urgent care.

dremel seems like a ton of work but it’s super easy.

or the other option since it’s a plastic stock (assuming based on your last post) is using a wood burning tool or a soldering iron and melt a name in there?

^^^^This would be the way to go, unless you are wanting to do the engraving yourself to keep it all your handy work for your daughter. I sanded my .243 down and then hand rubbed multiple coats of linseed oil on it. Came out a honey color.
Your daughter is going to like that, looks amazing!!
