Because I had only cleaned her up recently (before Nevada) to post it up on FB marketplace

Got a ton of hits so I deleted it for the meanwhile because I haven't even looked around at a Tacoma yet

    Apple Pie recipe

Just an FYI - today's apple pie was on short notice so I used store bought dough. If you'd like, I'd be happy to share the pie dough I use (best made the day prior and stored in the fridge).

In a medium sized bowl, mix together 1/2lb of sugar, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg and set aside (no pics needed for this step).

Next up, you'll want 1lb of peeled and sliced apples. I prefer granny smith as the sour + spices + sugar taste really good together.

For 1lb of peeled and sliced apples, you'll need about 2lbs which translates to 4 to 5 whole apples. I never include apple cores in my recipe so if you don't like a good pie, or hate your family, feel free to include them.

Bonus points if you use pics to support your friends - one of my cutting boards made by @FLBAdrian

Or maybe you prefer microplastics in your diet...

    20240529_155002.jpg

After all your slices are cut up, toss them into the bowl you made earlier and add 1/2oz of lemon juice and mix it up a bit until most of the slices are coated.

    20240529_160955.jpg

You'll want to let this sit for about an hour - the salt and lemon juice will actually pull the juices from the apple slices leaving it look like this once you're done waiting.

    20240529_170551.jpg

Now, it's time to throw everything into a pot but before putting it over the stove, you'll need 1oz of cornstarch and 1oz of water at the ready.

Run the stove between low and medium heat, then add your cornstarch and water into your apple mix. You'll want to stir occasionally as the goal here is to mix the water and corn starch you added, and allow the mixture to heat up and boil the water out; this is the most important part of the process because the goal is to create a bit of a slurry.

    20250726_162717.jpg

Too little time and you'll get a runny mess, and too long and you'll overcook the apples

Once you've got a sort of thick syrup, pull it off the heat and spread it on a baking sheet to let it cool

    20250726_163909.jpg

Enjoy the stuff stuck to your spatula you rascal, you deserve it!

While your apple mix is cooling, make your egg wash.

Mix 1 whole egg, 1 egg yolk, a pinch of salt, and 2 tablespoons of water and set aside.

Now grab your 8" pie pan and your pie dough.

The store packs come with two pie crusts which is perfect - you'll want to flatten it out a bit before tossing it onto your pan.

    20240529_173855.jpg

You can use whatever you want to slice off the excess, but I found a small roller/cutter to work best for this part and the last.

After you've got your dough on the pan, do some fancy shit like adding a border to your crust. It'll show people you're very demure, and very mindful.

    20250726_165900.jpg

Now an important step here is we don't want our pie crust to rise up and spill its guts everywhere so make sure you poke that shit before you pour in your apple filling.

    20250726_170116.jpg

Now pour in the goods - they should be completely cool by now.

    20250726_170714.jpg

Remember that second pie crust? Do the same as earlier and go ahead and get it rolled out.

Using the same item you used to cut off your excess dough, cut strips to create your lattice starting with the center and working your way out. Once that's done, use it again to cut off all the overhang.

    20250726_172031.jpg

That egg wash we made earlier? Time to use that shit.

    20250726_172527.jpg

And lastly, because I'm a fat kid at heart, I like to add a little more flavor to my crust by adding small bits of salted butter. The butter will melt and seep into the crust/top layer and add some flavor.

    20250726_172903.jpg

Depending on your oven, times will vary but I run 375 degrees for 45 minutes.

Toss it in the oven and just leave it alone. A tip that'll help here is to place the pie on a larger baking sheet in the event that anything spills over. I've even gone as far as to adding a second baking sheet below full of water to make the crust a bit less flakey.

While in the oven, don't open the oven door, don't mess with the heat, hell don't even look at it. Just leave it be until about the 35 minute to 40 minute mark and peer through the window just to make sure everything is good.

You'll know it's done when you've got a nice and even golden brown crust all around. Remember, you already cooked your apples so really we're just concerned about the pie crust at this point.

This one is today's pie, so it looks a tiny bit poofy which sure has to do with the dough being store bought.

    20250726_181014.jpg

Let that shit sit for 4 hours, then enjoy!

Don't ruin it by putting it in the fridge, it needs to cool down and settle slowly at room temp.

Past apple pies with my own home-made dough.
