Still have the disc, I might have had it on tape back then or it was the disc. That was right around when I started buying CDs versus cassettes. Bummed big time I didn't get tickets for the Smashiversary show

The discovery thing still happens for me now and then, because I do get to shows quite a bit. Not local but I saw Guns N Roses about 15 yrs ago and the Pretty Reckless opened up.

My claim to music fame though is finding Godsmack in 1995 and seeing them over 100 times.

I think Ignition was one of my first CDs as well. I also have the first album which I think didn't come out on CD until after Smash.

Most of the bands I "find" now are through SiriusXM Octane, they still do a fair amount (relatively speaking) of playing new music and putting new bands out there to keep things fresh

Have you checked out Driveways? They're on the up and up. Saw them at a small show about 2 years ago. Now they're opening for Alien Ant Farm and Bilmuri. They're from Salem and Somerville

I'd start with the EP Epilogues II. Then go from there. I like stuff off all their albums/EPs. Some of the older stuff you can really hear the Boston accent in

I remember not knowing who ADTR was when I saw their CD at Circuit City (ugh) and the stickers on the album said stuff like "the heaviest pop band you'll ever see" and "blink 182 gets gritty" or something so I was like...I've got $15 on me, let's see how accurate that was. That first album was really solid.

I've been on a Knives FL kick recently (check out their song Ghost, the 2023 EP version, not the later album version) as they're trying to capture early 2000s pop punk done by late 30 somethings. CLIFFDIVER's album "Exercise Your Demons" has also caught my attention a bit. Dual vocalists with the female vocalist sounding a bit like Claudio from Coheed IMO. It's Midwest Emo but slightly happy. I saw a YT comment calling them a pallet cleanser when Spanish Love Songs makes you so sad you actually want to end it. I like SLS a lot but I feel a bit hypocritical listening to them sometimes. Listening to the single version of Losers (the single is tuned a half step down relative to the album version and sounds better) in the Vette on the highway while Dylan is singing about being broke feels wrong.

EDIT: I apologize for clogging up this thread with music, but it's fun to go back through all this stuff. None of my current friends like this type of music so to discuss all this is rad.

I remember hearing adtr in high school (yuck) and thinking it was such a fresh sound. That first album is still my favorite of the whole discog

They're good! I started listening to them in 2022, when they had about 30k monthly listeners on Spotify. Now they have over 200k monthly listeners. I'd recommend checking them out if you can. Driveways just had a few shows opening for Bilmuri. My coworker saw them in Boston and said they're good.

Also, another up and coming punk band from Albany is Millington, they're like Less Than Jake meets Reel Big Fish/Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Do you subscribe to Spotify? I was going to but then all the ads on the free version turned me off. You listen to a bunch of ads, then it says you get the next 30 minutes free of ads but only 2 songs later they are playing the same ads again. Ugh!

I do and have been since 2020 when I finally caved in. Currently have the family plan. I liked it more than YouTube Music/premium and Pandora

I'll check em out! I've heard Albany used to have a huge scene but the only band I know going right now is drug church whom I also really dig

Been on Spotify premium for years, I could never deal with the ads on free and my Hulu account is free through my premium account so its definitely worth the 11 or 12 bucks a month

Totally dig this. That's how we find new stuff or get reminded of others.

Same..plus my wife isn't much into music in general, and damn sure not metal or gangsta rap from the old school either.

I've had Cold in the City on my favorites list for awhile, I'll have to check out the rest of their tracks. You like Goalkeeper too, right? They were at a brewery somewhere in MA recently but I couldn't get anyone to go with me. They have a Blink vibe which I dig.

I find my musical tastes shift based on the seasons. I can't listen to grumpy sad music like SLS or the Menzingers when it's nice out. I was listening to Paradox earlier today which I get it a kick out of, even if there is rumors of them being a plant (which I have seen them disagree with), but in the same that's not something I can listen to in the dead of winter.
