Are the tailgates + rear view cameras indentical is 2010-2015 Tacomas?

I smashed my tailgate last week on my 2015 and im looking at junkyard replacements. I found potential replacements from a 2010, 2013, and 2014. Seems 2014 uses the exact same rearview camera but the 2010 and 2013 use a different camera and I’m wondering if I can just swap my existing camera into the location on these or if they have the same female harness (cheaper options).

Part number for 2010-2013: 86790-04010

Part number for 2015:

$33 86790-04021 86790-04020

86790-04021 (says interchangeable with 86790-04020 but NOT 86790-04010)

Has anyone put a 2010-2013 tailgate with a camera on their 2014-2015? Any insight appreciated here

 

No. I'm not sure exactly what the difference is or what year the design changed, but the original relocate camera mount I had for my bumper was for incorrect and I needed to get a different one to work with the camera from my 2011. If I had to guess, they changed it either for the 2012 facelift or in 2013.

 

Good to know, I’m wondering if the 2013 one will work for my 2015 then. I could also potentially swap the entire handle + camera assembly if it will fit in 2013, though I did scratch mine up a bit.

 

Looks like you edited in some P/N info while I was typing my post up. Based on that, I don't think that 86790-04010 for 2010-2013 would work, and you'd need to buy

$33 86790-04021 86790-04020

86790-04021/04020 for 2014-2015.

 

Yup I did a bit more research. Do you think I’d be able to just swap out my entire handle + camera assembly from my 2015 into the 2013 tailgate? Seems like it should fit but I can’t find anything definitive. Thanks for the reply

 

Since the camera didn't change until after the facelift I suspect that they may be interchangeable, but there's still potential that something else changed (eg: the rods extending to the latches).

 

my '13 5 lug was prewired, but no camera, no rearview mirror with display.

The rear view camera needed for me was 86790-04010

Not sure that will help you, but maybe tighten up the window a bit.

 

The earlier cameras had 4 pins, the later cameras had 6. You can swap a new camera into an older truck if you buy just the tailgate harness.
I put a 2015 camera in my 2012 that wasn't originally equipped with a camera but the wiring was there.
