We worked it out with our contractor and I did most of the assembly. They checked it and hooked up power. Saved a lot

Looked into solar back in '99 when we built. At the time, panels had a 15-20 year lifespan. Even with pretty big tax breaks, they barely paid for themselves in that window. Looking now, they appear to have a longer lifespan, are more efficient, but it appears they still barely pay for themselves. I guess if you could do a bunch of the assembly, the labor savings would make it more worthwhile.

Brian @bkhlrTaco's commented on Saturday's attempt at restoring 4wd to my truck. Things didn't start well, and when the 2nd bolt that I loosened on the transfer case broke, I had visions of being in Eau Claire with a truck that couldn't be repaired that day, so I opted to put it back together and have the local shop do it. The bolt that broke appears to have been cross-threaded during assembly. I didn't even consider such a scenario and my metric taps and extractors were at home.

The shop said that book time was 7 hrs for the swap. Even having to extract that bolt, it took barely 5 hrs. It cost some $$$, but it's done...and now I have a 30k miles transfer case in my truck. It may not have ever been in 4lo before I checked it.

Thanks again to Brian for the offer...and at least the drive home was nice. Hadn't been in that area in quite a few years.

    Thinking about solar more. Thanks.

    I'm a good 20yrs from retirement.
Even if it's 10yrs before seeing savings, energy costs are only going to rise.
Repaying installation is a fixed price.

Say I were to hook solar up to the grid, that could be some nice supplemental retirement income coming back every month.......

Up until yesterday they seemed to be fine. I replaced drums and pads last summer. I never cou9ld adjust them right (it seemed) but the pedal feel came back and all seemed good as could get. No problem the whole trip out west with the brakes. yesterday? Thing was acting like the e brake was on. Nope e brake pedal is up. Things in back were dragging. Jacked it up and banged on shit in frustration and seems better now... I hate those things.

Oh there will be some mods all right
Wrong. Toyota said they specifically used drums on tacomas longer than any other manufacturer in the world because of how good they are off-road
