4th Gen Tacoma has an 18.2 gallon tank. Smallish, but not 14 gallons either.

Overall there is more interior space in the Frontier which may have gone down slightly with the refresh.

yes, and the low fuel indicator comes on with about 2.7gal remaining, so most folks find they're filling up with around 15 gallons.

I get that, but some people might fill up at 1/4 tank, or 1/2 tank. The amount to fill it up is nebulous, the actual size of the tank is known :)

OP, who is one person, is comparing his two trucks. We can reasonably assume he is following similar practices when filling up each one.

We can also reasonably conclude that he gets better range in the Nissan (what matters to most people), since he also says he gets similar gas mileage in each.

As several replies above or a simple google search would show, no. And your 22 doesn't have 18. Go back to your post Tang sugar high sleep.

So the OP is able to put 19 gallons into the Frontier's 21.1 fuel tank, but is limited to 14 gallons the the 4G's 18.2 gallon tank.

    The math ain't mathin.

I wonder who sells more full EV Toyota or Nissan? I think it's Nissan, and it could be broken down to US or North American sales and global sales for comparison. I looked on GCBC but no easy immediate results came up in the few seconds I tried searching.

yeah i own both a 2015 frontier and a 2024 tacoma, the tacoma has a lot more storage space in the cab. i will measure leg room when i get home tonight, but i think the frontier has more room behind the drivers seat. the frontier has a more upright driving position so you are a little closer to the wheel/pedals.

If Toyota it uses the 4G cab for the next gen Hilux how will that compare to the competition as far as interior room? Interior space might not be that important when it comes to midsize sales overseas.

On the gas tank size. I have taken it down as low as 20 miles to go on the gauge. Never put more than 14 gallons in. I did read that Toyota has a 2.5 gallon reserve which kind of defeats the computerized range and miles left. One person commented that this is so that you do not run the fuel pump to low and burn it up. When I fill it up it shows 320 miles of range which equals my approximate 22 mpg that I get for 14 gallons. How many have filled their tanks with 18.5 gallons?

let’s use real numbers. you have an owners manual, same as anybody can download from Toyota.

18.2 gallon tank, 2.7 gallon reserve

Distance to empty calculator accounts for that reserve amount.

I don’t yet have a 4th gen, but the low fuel light doesn’t show on my 3rd gen until DTE is at 20 miles. Is 4th gen different?

sounds like you’re filling up earlier than others.

Since the tank capacity is 18.2 gallons, I would guess no one has put 18.5 gallons in it.

I usually take the DTE down to single digits and refill with 15.2 - 15.4 gallons, so just shy of the 2.7 gallon "reserve". That's been giving me 22.7mpg (hand calculated) and 22.6 indicated. After fill up the range starts at 320 but the sum of DTE and trip miles continues to increase to around 350 as I get closer to a 1/4 tank.

Think of all that money saved on fuel. Sometimes I use 18 or 19 gallons. That would be like an extra 20 bucks in my pocket every fill up. 4th gen basically pays for itself.

I think most vehicles are very conservative on the DTE. Most of them that I've had leave plenty of reserve even when DTE is near 0, or in some cases, just reports --- when it gets low enough. If it was really 0, people would potentially run out of gas all the time a few miles short of 0 and blame the automaker.

My Can-Am Spyder is the same way. It has a 6.7 gallon tank but I've never put more than 5 in it, even when it's flashing "LOW FUEL" and DTE has stopped reporting.

I usually don't like to run my cars below 1/4 tank anyway just for peace of mind. Worse thing is to have an emergency or something and come out to the car with 1/16 of a tank.

I'll weigh in on the back seat interior discussion. I had a '22 Frontier crew cab long bed, and while the spec sheet doesn't show it having significantly different measurements than the Tacoma, the way the rear seat was angled more straight up and down netted more room between the back of the driver's seat so it felt like it had more legroom. Could be the seat bottom was smaller / shorter as well, so it looked like more legroom visually too. The Tacoma back seat is more comfortable to sit in, as its angled a bit more like a typical seat would be, but I do think that eats up a bit of the legroom for taller passengers without having the front seats slid fwd a bit more.

I also agree with the OP regarding the strap/buttons to hold up the seat bottoms on the Tacoma - after having the Nissan where the seat mechanism locked the seats upright without a strap/snap, it seemed like Toyota tried to save a few bucks on a cheaper solution. I only had my 4G for a year+ before trading it for my current 3G, but the snaps were already starting to lose their "hold" and were getting more difficult to "snap". I accessed my storage compartments frequently, so perhaps I had the seat bottoms flipped up more than most, but that was an item that I wish could be upgraded in a future model year before I jump back into a 4G.

Agreed, the straps and snap mechanism to hold the rear seat bottoms up out of the way does seem pretty chintzy.

I noticed a strap on the Xtracab passenger seat to fold it or what ever it does. Those straps and snaps make the interior look like it was designed by someone who was also working part time at a military surplus store.

on the MPG side of things, my 2015 frontier on 295s and regeared, yet it only gets 11-12 mpg in town and 14-15 highway. my 24 Sport on 35s and a GFC on the back gets 15 city and 18 highway.
