I have religiously purchased Haynes manuals for every one of my vehicles VW Rabbit, Toyota Corolla, '03 Tacoma, etc.

I just got one for a reference for my 2nd gen Tacoma for reference to replace front wheel bearings, and what a disapointment.

I had to literally, hunt for the one paragraph that referenced another section of the manual and made the excuse that the operation was too difficult, except to replace the hub assy.

I seem to recall when the manual for "a complete teardown..." gave you just that and let you decide what was out of your league.

    Thank God for this forum!

    A total waste of $20...

I use to love those manuals 20+ years ago, but now I just look it up online. I watched some YouTube videos when I changed my bearings and brakes and had all my questions answered along with great videos showing you how it's done.

I would agree totally with Scrapla. I can watch a video now, and review the factory mx manual somewhere online. This works across the board on the family fleet I maintain. Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai, Ford, ect.

I preferred Chilton over Haynes. (when they made paperback books)
Now days, It's hard to beat OEM service data.

The bad part is, most require a year subscription. And a year is expensive.
Thankfully, Toyota allows us a 2 day subscription for $25 - 100% WORTH IT!

If you know how to crawl and do advanced searches on Google, most of the time you can find the data if the car/truck is over 3 years old.
Seems like it takes about 3 years for the data to "leak".

90% of the time. I'm able to find what I need via a search engine.

    Or...Or....Ask the right people.....;)
It's not beyond me to call the dealership.
Being polite and asking EXACTLY what you need to know helps.

    For example, don't describe parts.
Know the parts. Know where they are, and how they work.
If you sound like you know what you are doing, a lot of times the dealership will help you. (I've even had them print off service data and schematics for me when buying parts)
