    Not a mechanic, hence the post. Brand new truck and happened to look at the under carriage. Is this normal? 300 miles in the truck so far.IMG_4047.jpg IMG_4048.jpg

    Those are unpainted surfaces, and expected to rust

    No issue with it

    No problem hitting them with some spray, woolwax, etc if you want

    Within a week of owning mine, I put some Fluidfilm on my truck. It came from the factory pre-rusted in those spots. It's port installed rust. From factory finished to taking delivery it was 3 weeks, so this happened in under a month's time.

    Back in the third gen days I recall someone mentioning those particular pieces are unpainted cast iron which oxidizes almost immediately after the truck leaves the factory. You see the same thing on the current Ranger while they’re sitting on the lot.

    This is of no concern, IMHO, and a totally different case than if the frame rails were showing signs of corrosion.

    It bugged me, OCD thing . Every vehicle I’ve ever owned had areas like that, spray paint, problem solved.
