Wowza, 11 year thread rivival to talk about coffee. I like your style. FWIW, DARK black coffee at 0600, 1000, and 1400. Any other answer is incorrect.

I have to come forward with an admission. I've drank coffee since I was 16. The last few months I have had chronic insomnia, getting maybe 2 hours a night if I was lucky. I've had two longtime ongoing issues, 1) an infrequent irregular heartbeat that doctors couldn't figure out (don't get me started) and 2) lower back pain so bad I would have to roll out of bed, stand, and touch my toes every morning just to get moving every day.

The first I spent over 5K on, doctors threw their arms up and said "well, I guess you just have an irregular heartbeat." F'k the medical machine! The second I attributed to hanging sheetrock when I was in my 20's, I was hanging a ceiling sheet, slipped on the ladder and was down for 6 weeks with a thrown out back. I just lived with it, in the morning every day my lower back felt like an aching slab of concrete, for almost half a century.

The sleeplessness was the last straw. My mind was mush during the day. I always drank at least 3 cups of coffee in the morning, sometimes the whole pot, and swore I'd never stop. So . . . almost a month ago I quit coffee cold turkey. I never thought of all things coffee would be the hardest to quit. I had headaches for a week, and still feel a little dragging in the morning but . . . .

Second night with no coffee was my first night of good hard sleep in a month. That felt awesome but today it hit me. I realized my lower back pain was gone. Completely gone after 40 years or so. I am in total shock over this, I can't believe my favorite drink I swore I'd never quit was the problem all along!

The heart arrhythmia seems to have stopped too, they would hit 2 or 3 times a month, I'm betting they will be gone too. I think the moral is if it gives you joy, quit that shit. :D

I know some of you want to cry bullshit (I know would have!) but dig around first. After discovering this, I did some research. There are many sources that show a link between coffee and back pain - the only one I found that contested it was the NIH government site. F'kers want us dead anyway, go figger LOL

@rocknbil I'm stoked to hear that for you man. I also believe you. I have thought about quitting myself, and its a lot about the ritual for me. I do love the taste as well.

The 2 things I find I likely picked up from coffee: Bruxism and restless legs.

But that hasn't been enough of a deterrent for me yet.

I was reading an article somewhere on the internet a while back from a guy who quit coffee and he too had the headaches, that's normal. But he also had great results like you did. I've heard about 2-3 months after quitting coffee you feel completely normal again.

My advice to anyone who is going to quit would be - the key is likely to ween off not cold turkey, the results will be the same if you ween down. Go from 12 oz to 10 to 8 to 4 etc per day until you get to 0. I suspect the headaches might not come on after you get to 0.

The articles are out there on the web to support Rocknbil's arguments, I know that I've read them.

I agree. But I just got to wonder, this thread sat for 12 years with zero posts. Then suddenly in 2024 someone finds this relic and starts it up again. I just don’t know how anyone even found this in the thousands and thousands of archived posts. Oh well, think I’ll have a cup of Darjeeling tea and contemplate this phenomenon.

I think people who are newer search the forums and see a thread on an existing topic, and then post.

You sort of can't win -

"What are you doing man! There's a thread on that topic already!"

"What are you doing man reviving this old post?"

    lol

I was drinking Yogi Peppermint earlier.

I've built up a bit of a collection of about 6 or 7 of their teas.

I like them b/c of the quality and taste, but also the quotes or phrases on the tags.

I know the hardcore tea drinkers but the really high end stuff.

I def like the health benefits that can be gained from some of them.

If you want to try a really really great tea try Yorkshire Gold. Best tea I’ve ever had. I have friends who have brought me back the top teas from China but to me nothing beats Yorkshire Gold.

My buddy in Portland is recommending Smith Tea and Harney and Sons. I'm not familiar enough to know what's good or not.

Meh, I’ll play in the dead thread - I drink both but I’m a tea snob, only whole leave tea. Screw them bags
