Ok got a mower deck question for you guys..... Throw me some input.

Constantly got moldy grass under my deck cause I always mow wet to avoid the dust/p[pollen.
& Usually don't get the pressure washer out as I'm beat when done mowing.

So have any of you put a deck cleaner connection on your deck?
Will it work for a triple blade deck?

    Input?

    They a gimmick.

Hang a chain fall from a nearby tree and winch the unit up.

Garden hose, pressure washer or just plain compressed air to blast the crud off.

You really only need to do it at the end of the season. The rotting grass adhering to the underside (as well as the top)of the deck is what causes the corrosion. Rotting vegetation turns acidic as it sits thru the cooler, damp months.

I just got off of the phone with Amazon CS, I was seeing if they would give me a partial refund for the pulleys that came with the kit. After a few minutes of talking to get the guy to comprehend that I had used most of the parts with the kit, I would just like a partial refund for the pulleys that I couldn't use. He finally grasped what I was asking for and told me that they would provide a full refund because of the incorrect parts and that I didn't need to return anything.

I'm not complaining about a full refund, I just wasn't asking or expecting one.

I bring the 48" and the 54" walk behinds onto the concrete apron in front of the shop. Rig the safety controls so the blades keep spinning even though there is no operator, and then BOUNCE the water spray from the hose up into the underside of the deck. It takes a few minutes of spraying to saturate and loosen the grass buildup, but when it comes loose, It's easy to tell.

The debris gets hosed off into the verge, It can be thick, so sometimes I rake that up for disposal (Use as mulch in the garden)

You ought to come to one of these conferences for AMPP or DoD Maintenance because the amount of blasting equipment and techniques is incredible. And, they often have the small portable units that you can deploy easily for "in the field" work. The cool thing is all the different ways and aggregate being used (sponge, dry ice, stainless, etc..). I personally like trying out the exo skeleton units and testing the blasters out in the back lot!

Just tossed a bucket set up. Compared to a real media blasting rig, it was about useless as well, you know...

There was a whole point/counterpoint thread over on a green tractor forum a while back on this subject. The OP was in the same camp as you. Lots of ass hats on that forum. I think the OP told them to kick rocks and go piss up a rope.

Of all the threads, this one is the one I enjoy the most by a long shot. So with that stated, I thought I would share some good news.

Somehow as a teenager, I always planned and thought of retirement over all else. Like, how do I get there, what options do I have, etc.. I couldn't afford college back in the 90s, so I joined the military and did 11-12 years active before dropping in the the IRR (inactive reserves), but still kept my satisfactory years up and retired at 20 yrs (first retirement stream). Went to a FFRDC organization that became not for profit with incredible benefits (401k was 3% match and 12% of salary on top of that!). I've been here for 23 years and at the top of the program (second retirement stream). Turning 53 in a few months.

And, just accepted a govt position at the highest pay grade and level. It's a bit of a pay drop and the environment isn't the greatest these days (please no political opinions/comments), but it's the same job I've been doing and I'll be the director of the program and I will build up my own staff. It's a small pay drop, but the long term implications outweigh that.

That's good news, but the simple fact that I can buy my military active time back and will add to my retirement streams (Third retirement stream) and still be able to retire at 60! All I have to do now is stay healthy to enjoy it all.

Bottom line: I see a bigger tractor in my future!

Nicely done! Around here it is not uncommon for fire and police employees to deliberately earn a pension then "retire" and get hired at another Town and start a second retirement so they have two when they retire. When I started in municipal recreation we could join the state retirement system or choose a private company. Since the state legislature at the time was "borrowing" from the state retirement funds I opted for the private company. Fast forward 20 years and during the open enrollment period I could, for the last time, enroll in the state retirement system without changing my job. I opted to do just that so when I retire in 3-5 years I can collect from the private company, the state retirement system and social security. It was not intentional at the time but it was a good decision none the less.

Nicely done! There are some of us who think long term and intentional or not....try to make the best decision at the time!

Ok... so I don't know if I have the correct new solenoid or not, but it seems to be working following my first cut with it today. I'm attaching pictures below of the original (old) solenoid as well as the Kohler replacement (new) solenoid that I bought. The plunger part is obviously way different between the two. But I used the mower to cut the full area that I normally cut with this 36" machine, and I got no dieseling whatsoever when I shut it off at lowest throttle. The dieseling has seemed to be heat related, but by cutting the full area the engine should have been heated up sufficiently to induce the dieseling on shutoff. I'm interested to see what happens next time I cut with this mower.. :fingerscrossed:
I did notice that the official Kohler instruction sheet supplied with the part makes no mention of removing the carburetor to change out the solenoid, but simply says to unscrew it from the bottom of the bowl. The new part did however come with new gaskets (apparently for the carburetor). I shut off the fuel valve at the gas tank and ran the engine for about a minute until it quit. There were just a few drops of fuel left in the carburetor bowl.

I'm not totally sure what you are asking.

The fuel cut off for many Kohler motors is easy to remove with the carb still in place.

The instructions are vague, you unscrew from the side of the bottom of the bowl.

Unplug, unscrew, replace in the opposite manner.

The new solenoid fuel shut off is solid metal.

The original was capped with a rubber plug that could be broke down with long exposures of ethanol fuel.

I hope I helped with your question.

I don't think I ever posted this in here but I did a restoration on my Cub 3205. When I got it someone had can bombed over the factory PC w/o sanding it and it was peeling off, crazed and cracked. Looked worse in person than in this pic.
    upload_2025-8-2_7-16-40.png

I used my weed burner torch and heat stripped it with a razorblade scraper.

    upload_2025-8-2_7-20-15.png
    upload_2025-8-2_7-20-56.jpg

Painted it with Van Sickle etching primer, yellow sanding primer then topped with catalyzed Van Sickle tractor paint. A guy made the decals except for the stripe which I cut out of vehicle wrap. I did it as a tribute to the Cub/Yanmar Sc2400 tractors before I bought my Sc2400

They will probably cut it for silage before it makes an ear for cattle feed. Any dairy farms in the area?
