My dealer has the exact spec manual Tacoma on the lot that I want, except it has the thick door edge guards. I hate they way they look. These are the heavier pressed on version. Has anyone removed these without damaging the paint? The only other posts I’ve seen on this and other sites are mixed.

Those can be easily removed without damage. I'm sure if you asked the dealer, they will happily remove them for you to make the sale.

Don't let that silly edge guard stop you from buying your perfect truck :) The edge guards come with internal adhesive in the channel. You can remove it by prying/lifting the edge (with an old credit card or plastic trim tool) and spray WD40. Slowly work it loose and off. Then clean the WD40 with soap and water. Good luck.

Most every truck I look at has those door edge gaurds as an add on.

About a 50/50 chance the dealer screws up the removal? Do what tacowrench suggested.

Thanks guys! I’m picking it up on Saturday and will just take it slow when removing them myself.

Do what you wish, but I'd suggest leaving them on for a while and see if they still bother you after a month...
They aren't really that bad looking, and surely not worth scratching up your paint to get them off.

I think they look absolutely terrible. They stick out like a sore thumb and ruin the body lines. It’s worth the risk. But after some research I think they’ll come off fine.

Sitting outside on a hot sunny day and or a heat gun on low will also aid in their removal.

Its funny what influences our decisions when we make a purchase. With this guy its door edge guards. I bought a new E Bike this weekend and passed on one that I thought looked great because it had brown tires. What was with that? I told the guy I would pass on that one because of the tires. I did find what I was looking for a few bike shops later. I did my research first but missed that.

When I was shopping for a heated steering wheel for my 2023 Taco and couldn't get one installed, sales guy and I discussed a 2025 Taco Limited, I told him I would not buy it if it had black wheels. He sighed and pointed out they were not. Got my heated steering wheel, but it came with 4 wheels.
