    Hi all...
Have a 2023 Tacoma SR5 that I have done some light towing with(~1-1500lbs) but am looking into purchasing a pop up and will be increasing my towing load so want to make sure I am doing things right. I am looking at purchasing a redarc liberty brake controller but have a couple of other questions...

-How do I know if I am set-up with a tow package? I have a V6, hitch, connector but the information when plugged into toyotas website doesn't explictly state the tow package.

-If I am to start towing a little heavier(max~3-3500lbs), is there anything else I should look into doing/having the dealership do? I have read mixed statements about the taco's having a transmission cooler but didn't know if anyone suggests a temp scanner? or anything else I should be looking into...Just trying to be proactive to do the best thing!

    Thanks in advance

A copy-n-paste of your question into google gives this:

The wiring harness connector in the rear bumper is a pretty good clue..

I don’t have a transmission cooler but also read that they did away with those so I was confused

If you don't have the 4/7 wiring connector already in the back then most likely you don't have the tow pkg. Also should state if automatic or standard transmission.

Then you prob have the tow pkg. To be positive take your VIN to the dealer and have them look it up and they will tell you definitely if you do, can prob just call them.

First, you should not have the dealer do anything to your truck! Find a local shop or find someone on here that has the tools and skills to help

Second, there is a good chance you are going to need to upgrade your suspension as the capacity is not much and you can overload the truck very easily

According to this brochure on Toyota’s website, all 2023 Tacoma models have the towing package, including an ATF cooler for the auto transmissions. Note that the ATF cooler may not be the mini-radiator type most of us are familiar with but rather a heat exchanger type like the one in our AWD 2018 RX350. Google AI states all trim levels except the base model have the towing package.

If you don’t have a tranny cooler, you should get one especially if you are going to be towing heavier.
