I forgot to mention I have aftermarket exhaust manifolds so follow what @Dm93 said.

Just found out potential doner truck is manufactured Dec 2012. So when you say heads, are you talking about the exhaust headers? And if so can I use the exhaust headers off my ‘06 with new gaskets or are you talking about the actual heads on the engine? And do I need to also use the intake manifold off my ‘06 to make it plug and play? If you could beak down exactly what I have to do to make it work I would greatly appreciate it! My buddy is talking to the owner in a bit to see what he wants for it. Thanks so much for your help! -Steven

The holes I'm referring to are in the cylinder heads, the 12-15 manifolds have mating ports in them.

    05-11 cylinder head

12-15 cylinder head, ports I'm referring to are circled in red. I imagine if you could find correct size steel galley plugs you could drive them in the holes to plug them.

Something like this, sort of a mini freeze plug probably would work to plug them if you could find the right size.

You don't have to, intake manifolds are the same.

Everything is the same except wiring and the heads.
The reason I always recommend using as much original stuff from your truck as possible is to eliminate possible variables should issues arise.
Typically you have a known running engine with known good sensors, injectors, etc, typically when you get a used engine you have no idea if any of that is good so it's always best to use your known good stuff.

If I used the ‘06 manifolds w new gaskets it almost looks like the manifold would plug over those port holes depending on the width of the collar at the mating surface?? The extra port holes are tied into the newer manifolds right? I will have full access to both trucks if I get it. I will be able to mix and match to hopefully make it work? If that won’t work and I have to use the manifolds off the 2013 then I would plug the manifold side of the port right? I have no idea how I’m gonna find plugs that size? I was hoping it was something I could plug w a bolt but it’s not looking that easy. I think I read somewhere that those ports are only on the driver side cylinder head right?

What is the difference in the wiring? If I use the manifold and everything off the ‘06 I was hoping everything would just plug right in?
Thanks so much for the pictures and reply bro!
@henryp how’d you do it? What did you do about the ports? And what was the wiring like? Did everything plug in right?

Thanks you guys! I really need to get my wife’s truck fixed asap and this local truck in this one horse town is looking like my best bet

Don't know but I don't think they would.

You could use block-off plates if you did that yes.

No both heads have SAIS ports.

Don't know all the differences but always keep the harness original to the truck, all it takes is one pin to be different to cause a big headache.
I know wiring is different between 06 and 13

By the way what is wrong with the 13 truck?

I used ‘13 engine, ‘09 compatible headers from URD, I believe I used newer manifold gaskets. I asked @Torspd since he’s done a bunch of engine swaps. I did mine 4-5 years ago so my memory is a bit shaky.

@Dm93 the 2013 hit a cow out here on the one straight away we have here in town. It killed the cow which somehow disappeared lol(I know the local rancher) and the truck has been sitting for the last few years. We live way up in the mountains of Trinity county CA, 2.5 hours from the nearest city. Might get a great deal on the 2013 hopefully

So the ports are tied into the manifold? I’m liking your block off plate idea but your freeze plug idea might be the way to go? Now I’m wondering if @henryp ’s aftermarket headers covered the ports plugging the holes?

Did those URD headers plug the port holes?

And did everything plug in right w the wiring? Thanks for jogg’n your memory for me :)

    Ah ok

If you use the 13 manifolds you just need two block off plates for the manifold ports.

@Dm93 @henryp @anthony250f !! I read the thread and have the block off plates in a cart ready to buy! Guess I should find some gaskets but the guy in that thread was able to reuse his. There’s one plug in connector that is non existent on the ‘06 so with that SAIS pump removed it won’t matter. Hope all other plug ins are the same? Now I’ve just gotta get my hands on the truck! Thanks so much!
