It would only matter if you're wanting to buy a full size truck and not the best selling mid-side truck in the USA...

If they cost more new and sell for more used, your net cost vs buying for less and selling for less is the same. Same thing applies to buying a used Toyota for more and selling that used Toyota for more. Net investment is the same.

Not everyone buys a Tacoma to use as a work truck. I would wager very few use them for work. My "lifestyle" involves needing more cargo room than a trunk or hatchback but I don't need a 6' bed. I prefer to park in my garage (109deg today, 111deg forecast for tomorrow) and enjoy the maneuverability of a smaller truck. I'm grateful that Toyota offers a truck that meets my needs and apparently a couple hundred thousand others. Sounds like your needs better align with what Ford and Chevy offers. https://www.f150forum.com/ , https://www.silveradosierra.com/

I see a lot of Tacoma work trucks around here in the southeast. Couple of the major exterminator companies use them, as well as some lawn fertilizer/pest-control companies. Trailhunter / Pro / TRD models are aimed at the consumers of course, those aren't typically seeing fleet duty.

Just curious - How many F-150 Lariats and Tremor and King Ranch and Platinum and Raptors are you seeing as work trucks? Or how about Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate? Or even AT4 / AT4X - are they common work trucks too? Or are they lifestyle/IG Bro vehicles too?

My truck is a personal vehicle. I chose it because it works better for my needs than a sedan or SUV.

Shit, shower, shave is a proper foundation to a productive day on the factory floor.

    Ha!
Back in early 2000's circa 2005, when my wife had Bunko Night w/ her lady friends at the house and 3 young kids and I had to make scarce, I could take them to Taco Bueno (like a Taco Bell) and STUFF them for like $10. Those days are gone. Fast food "value" days are gone... but jacking up minimum wage (designed for entry level jobs!) especially in poorly run states ain't helping.

Yes, same. Here in south midwest, if you will, the vast majority of 4th gens you will see in medium to large towns will be Tacoma work trucks, construction, pest control, landscaping etc. - all white exterior of course ;)

Honestly, it surprised me when 4th gen hit to want to see them "in the wild" - I would spot mostly work truck versions. Didn't expect it.

Tacomas as light duty work trucks for fleet sales - exterminator, pool cleaning, etc. yes. Do a lot of individuals buy new Tacomas for dedicated heavy work, probably not. I do see a lot of custom home builders and general contractors driving Raptors, Tremors, King Ranch, etc. They call them work trucks but all they carry in them is a tape measure and a clipboard.

Exactly. Slap their company name on the side and write off their lifestyle/IG Bro truck as a business expense.

Not the guy you asked and it of course is purely anecdotal evidence. But I have 3 customers who show up with HD diesels to get loaded on gooseneck trailers. One guy has a F-350 King Ranch DRW, another guy has a '24 + Sierra Denali Ultimate 2500HD, and the last a lowly Ram 3500 SRW Laramie, his business must not be doing as well. Maybe we don't charge enough to these guys?

Sure, you'll have the guys who individually buy a luxury truck for business purposes as they get the luxury benefit at a reduced cost thanks to writeoffs.

I was more referring to fleet trucks - those buyers are going for the XL and maybe XLT models as they're not the ones riding around in the trucks they buy.

The 4g Tacoma has a GVWR over 6,000lb (3g wasn't) which means that under Section 179 you can claim the higher deduction if you are using it as a "work" truck.

    Interesting detail, nice.

I see the 4th gen is splitting the line - some models below 6000lb and some above.

Those trucks depreciate faster mostly because they are all sold at a discount to begin with. You're saving more buying one of them used, if you are buying previously owned you probably aren't shopping based on resale value. It's still the same thing no matter how you slice it. More truck for less money and less resale value or less truck for more money and greater resale value.

Most intresting thing was that regular cab XL that still had a sale price close to or greater than some of the Supercrews that are STXs.

Last I checked was earlier today I still haven't seen July's Tacoma numbers.

    Edit

It's up now 26,425 second best month this year and 2nd best month in the history of 4G.

Where did you get 26,545 from? GCBC shows 26,425. Still a lot of trucks either way, I wonder how many are 24s that got relased for sale and how many were allocations? There was a good number of Tacomas on inventory.
