Just couldn’t get any closer because the wind was blowing right into them. A lot noses and eyes to be stalking around.

PXL_20250803_203321944~2.jpg Went out and did some scouting. Surprisingly few mosquitoes and no more deer flies! I was in mature hardwoods with wetlands and two rivers and didn't even need bug spray - I'll take that any day.

Oh, also found a great spot for a new stand  Hard to tell in the pic but there are wetland beyond the big tree and the hickory in the middle is 15 yards from the intersection of two very heavy trails coming off an ag field and tracing the swamp.

Sure but it's deep onto private property, where we tend to shoot first and ask questions later!

My first archery buck was from Massachusetts! I kinda miss some of that country. You also mentioned northern Maine, one of the most interesting mounts I’ve ever seen is hanging in a country store along the boarder of New Hampshire. A little town call Effingham some crazy genetics up there!!

We have some good genes here in SW MI too, I know a couple guys with bigger ones than this.

Also, curious what everyone uses for broadheads.. since I shoot traditional I typically go with a heavy two blade setup. These are 160 grain Ace Standards that I pair with a 75 grain insert. I've had a complete pass-through with these every time (51# longbow).

Still using the same Thunderheads as in that picture. Over 30 years!! But for hogs in Texas, I found these cheapie ones online that were pretty close in weight… with arrows from Academy, the delta in cost between my regular combo and those is about $20 a piece! I was shooting at least 6 pigs a year just before I moved.
