Homologated means approved, that's all. LED is still bi-directional, not omnidirectional. Approval seems to apply to glare, not to how well it works.

 

Yep, as long as its over the minimums and under the maximums it's legal. Doesn't mean it is better, or even as good, as we've seen here with Crash's excellent testing.

 

I just bought these. Any concern for low beam compared to a regular h9 bulb?

They’ll be sorta white and not as bright as a regular good H9 bulb. The colored blue glass filters light, filtering light dims the output. Simple physics…like putting on sunglasses.

If you want the blue bulb whitish look, yeah they’ll do the job, won’t be as bright. If you’re looking for actual performance, just buy a quality H9. it’s the best output you can possibly get out of a simple plug in halogen bulb and a massive improvement over the stock H11 bulbs.

 

My H9 from NAPA are clear glass ... no tint and no fancy tip color.

 

Obviously no blue is better. But if you do want a little whiter light, they make bulbs with the blue towards the base and the tip of the bulb, but no blue covering the actual filament.

 

I use Philips H9 no tint or cap on the glass

Just obtained a 2016 Highlander, ordered some OSRAM H9's to replace the H11's

The high beams are H53 if I recall, they had some strange staining on the inside of the bulb for some reason.

 

HB3? I do not think a Sea Stallion can fit inside of a Highlander

HB3 is the same as 9005. You can mod an HIR 9011 bulb (trim one tab) to fit the 9005 socket. That's what I did to my wife's RAV4. Same filament placement, same size element, no glare.

That's what I did with my 2005 GX470. You can get a Sylvania 9011, IF you can find one made in Korea, it will be an HIR bulb.

 

Phillips also makes 9011 HIR bulbs. Made in Germany.

 

Garbage.

A bi-directional LED limited to legal halogen spec lumen output regulations while not being an omni-directional light source in an omni-directional housing is going to catastrophically under perform. All the best PnP LEDs that still fail to out perform even stock wattage performance halogens run at excessively over lumen legal output, and yet still fail to out perform halogens in halogen housings. Don't fall for the kool-aid.

 

5000k bulbs from a halogen source suffer catastrophic filtration losses, definitely not recommended. Higher color temps in halogen are achieved by heavier blue filtration coatings which remove lower color temp light output to make it "whiter", but the important thing to note is that you are removing light output, and removing light output reduces your output.

Crash tested an older model from the same brand. I doubt this new model improves on anything, other than adding MORE glare.
This is another brand that sends their products to influencers and "buy" good reviews.
