Getting my Voodoo rack, plastic bed caps, and plastic from the bumper sprayed today (also might VP racing gas tank mount and floor jack pole ha) as well since I’ve got some time for the next week or so.

Was able to actually get all the bumper plastics off no problem without having to drop the bumper/part of the tow hitch assembly which was surprising. On the very end plastics on the bumper, you can get them off without breaking the plastic attachments (person before me broke the middle one) by getting the part closest to the license plate unclipped and the pushing the piece toward the front of the vehicle to get it out.

    IMG_0783.jpg

Else, managed to scratch my truck real good when the rack slipped :( Plan to respray or wrap anyhow but this was painful.

    IMG_0782.jpg

Also, have some serious rust to address… Anyone got the part # handy?
Edit: seems to be 52043-04010.. Picking up tomorrow from the dealer who’s getting it in from Jacksonville. Don’t want to be taking off the plastic again unnecessarily.

Good Lord man, I think you just need to get a new bumper. That metal is severely compromised.

New pads (Power Stop) and bled the brakes.
The calipers arrived first so I did those and had to wait for the pads to show up.

If you’re looking for the reinforcement beam that should be the part number. https://parts.longotoyota.com/oem-parts/toyota-bumper-face-bar-reinforcement-beam-rear-5204304010

You may want to check your bolts and see if they’re still good. I replaced mine a few months ago and ended having to get new bolts

Started working on my battery/electrical system for the camping setup last week and gave it a nice test run down on Cape Cod with my wife last weekend. I don't like relying on electricity but its honestly reallyy nice to be able to charge phones, cameras, laptop to work remotely, fans etc. Projector movie night is like our own mini drive in movie.

Agreed. The rest of the actual bumper is fine but definitely doing the reinforcement and potentially the hitch that attaches with the bolts!

FWIW rest of frame is mint so I don’t get shamed further :D Will probably coat it during my current time off.IMG_0792.jpg

Those tabs are designed to “hang” in the mounting bracket. I’m a bit surprised a mechanic wouldn’t know that, even on a truck they weren’t familiar with, but it’s not a big deal. It’s just not technically correct. No harm, no foul.

id flip it over see those tabs hanging down they go into holes on the boxed portion. I've seen a few guys trucks with the tabs all full of like grass form hanging that way. but a couple of good strikes with a hammer fixes all that, or a cut off wheel
    again not a huge deal

    Today’s project.

After all of the other things I’ve done to this truck, it seems odd this is my first time ever changing oil. It went as smoothly as you’d imagine.

Whoever put on the old filter used waaaaaay too much force.

I cleaned up my ‘08 Tacoma and used tire shine on the tires. I looked at the odometer and saw it was 434,045 miles showing and my truck still has original drivetrain. IMG_6306.jpg

    Thanks, gents!

Does anyone know how much the bumper reinforcement really supports the tow hitch? Got a $1900+ quote from the dealer for that part although the bumper reinforcement is just $240 out the door.

The hitch itself and the part that bolts into the frame are clean besides some slight surface rust near the hitch itself (and the part that actually bolts to the bumper reinforcement that is my focus in my next paragraph) that will clean up just fine.

I just don’t know how much the following part (red circles in “3” and “1”) needs real support from the bumper reinforcement (red circle in “2” and purple in “3”).

My initial inclination would be to have a welder do something but lmk. $1900 is steep when the rest is fine.

Wow!! I’m sure those bolts have purpose for being there but $1900 is a lot for just the hitch. I would check with a local junk yard and see if they have one there. I’m sure it will be a lot less than the dealer.

This might be an option too: https://www.extremeterrain.com/redr...ccCjVxbv2gEY27JspJymZSNwu256rRRhoCxvkQAvD_BwE
