2020 Tacoma, SR RWD model (access cab). 60k miles on it.

As I was detailing my truck today, I noticed some white corrosion on my seat backet bolt of the passenger seat. Most of the white crust was brushed off by the time I took this picture. The bolt pictured is the only one that has it (very, very mild white corrosion on the other bolts of the seat, not nearly this bad.

I live in the south, so hardly any salt on the roads.

Any idea what could have caused this? And what should I do about it? Cosemtically, I don't care (there is a cover on it anyway), but I am more concerned about this becoming a safety problem

Never seen anything like that besides on the battery terminals up here in the Midwest. Just put on some seat jackers would have noticed something like that.

My only thought is i had my wife's old battery back there while i was transporting it to recycle (probably was back there a few days until i made it to the auto parts store), and her car did come from up north-perhaps some salt got into the carpet from that, and ambient humidity wicket it into the seat bracket. I don't recall the battery leaking, and there are covers on those bolts anyway, so i don't know if that is related.

That looks like some sort of chemically induced corrosion. Your battery recycle theory is plausible.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

I took the bolt out, scrubbed it all down with a wire brush tonight, 90% of the corrosion removed... POR-15 going to happen when i get around to it.

Smell the surrounding carpet for battery acid.

Wouldn't know, there are those on here that wait for their wives to leave before licking their Tacomas. At least that is the gist in one posters tag line.
