my 2.4 starts and runs great in almost all respects, but in the last few months I've developed an odd problem. I live at 2450ft elevation but spend time at 500ft elevation. I travel on a paved 4 lane highway. The engine runs fine at both locations and downhill. Only when travelling uphill from 500 ft to home, the engine dies a few minutes/miles after I top out on a steep grade at about 2000rpm without warning. Shifting and throttle response were normal. The engine starts and runs normally afterwards. The only code is p0442 and that only occurs intermittently. Any ideas??

P0224 isn't in the service manual for a 2004 Tacoma.
But that code typically comes back as a Throttle Position Sensor
About all you can do, physically is ohms tests.

does your CE stay on or(like my 2rz auto)
Goes on for 2secs then off…..repeats several times during course of short drive
When CE lite on taco bogs for a few secs then returns to normal
Never could read a code….none stored either

truck is an automatic 2wd no apparent tranny problems, always been good. Once set, CE stays on until cleared, and it is not always lit when the truck dies but I still read the error on the OBD scanner

quick update - starts and runs on propane, so definitely a fuel issue. Changed fuel filter - no help but I did invent some new words. Next is MAF and fuel Pressure /regulator FPR.

I did not find any easy way to add a fuel pressure gauge for troubleshooting - it looks like solid metal tubing from tank to rear of fuel rail where it ends in a single banjo. Has anybody tried to add a double banjo so you could monitor fuel pressure in real time via gauge?? Anybody know what size M x thread that banjo is??
