As everyone knows its hard finding a camper. I have a 97 single cab (6' bed) and there's a Toyota pickup shell nearby. Anyone know how close these are to being a good fit or have pictures? I'm assuming its not perfect but hoping it can work and look decent. It's coming off of an 83 which I think has a similar bed size.

Is the 83 a regular or Xtra cab? That's what's going to make the most difference. The Xtra cab is angled in the back, just like on our (Xtra cab) trucks, and chances are a shell made for that style will rub on the top of your cab. Otherwise, I think the geometry is more similar for regular cabs between the trucks than the Xtra cabs. The only other noticeable difference I've seen is a slight height difference, with the top of the pickup shells sitting a bit lower than tacoma cabs.

Not a regular cab, but I have some experience here. I ran a shell that I’m nearly certain was off a pickup. I assume it was also an ext cab, as the cab angle was pretty close (tho still not perfect) and the shell roofline was slightly lower than the trucks.
If I were to wager id bet the single cabs are about as close as the ext cabs are, close just not perfect. If it’s cheap, and you want a shell I think it’s worth at least testing the fit out. Only issue I ever had was the cab seal leaked a ton in the rain (obviously since it doesn’t seal). If the shell had windows or glass at the cab then I might still have it. Pickup shells get nice and cheap, Tacoma shells call for a crazy premium for

    Some help with dimensions here:

    https://raybuck.com/pickup-truck-bed-size-dimensions/

I did a search for months on FB marketplace before finding the perfect shell for my truck a 3.5 hour drive away. They are out there. If you’ll study some pictures of regular cabs with correct shells you’ll start to recognize the angle of the cover matching the rear of the cab as well as the angle of the window behind it. That helped me rule out a ton of wrong “Toyota” shells. 8 out of 10 listings won’t say what year truck a shell came off of.
