I hate to say it and forgive me in advance but you can get a last 5 years Raptor with the similar mileage, and with a clean title, for $10k more (than $34K) via private seller on the Raptor forums.

    Does this still seem wise?

    Love our trucks but cmon.

    Bingo.

Tacoma is a fine truck if you were able to buy the year you wanted back when they were selling new.

But this insanity of people overpaying for WELL USED (5+ years old) trucks is only making the market more irrational and overall worse for consumers in the end.

Yeah, it's gotten pretty crazy, I know I overpaid, but still what I consider reasonable for the truck I got. Luckily there's still that small minority that have these trucks and have no idea what the market is bearing these days, but you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Well I didn't get the rebuilt title vehicle. I ended up getting a Toyota Certified 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 with 6' bed and 46k miles. Yeah, not the 2nd gen I was hoping for but, I must say, the trepidation I had about lack of power hasn't panned out. The only drawback is the hesitation when accelerating. Once it kicks in it goes pretty well.

The 3rd gen 3.5L needs to be driven like a sports car so don't be afraid of that pedal.

34k plus potentially tax and licensing for a made in Mexico 10+ year old Tacoma with no warranty? Save your money and keep the Frontier or get a late teens Tundra DC with the 4.6L which is better than the 4.0L in every way.

You're paying "collector" money for a mass produced pickup truck. . .. if anything look for a local franchise dealer trade in with 75K miles ..

I'm reading all your comments on how much you got your taco for and now I'm thinking I spent too much lmfaoooo

Cost me13k for 2012 crew cab TRD sport 6ft bed with matching truck cap.160k miles
    • Surface rust on frame but missed some early rust holes on frame front rails and gonna cost me 2k to repair those trails on both sides(behind the cat).
    • Serviced all fluids
    • Replaced rusted rear bumper beam and trailer hitch
    • Front Wheel bearings hub assemblies
    • Transmission pan because of striped drain plug
    • Clock spring replacement
    • Antenna assembly replacement
    • Front brake and rotor replacement
    • About to re-boot driver side cv and probably do passenger side because why not I'm already there.
    • And the mini harbor freight that I now own in my garage, all to service this truck
I pay only 80 bucks a month for insurance.
All in all I'm in this new to me truck about 20k.

I bought this truck because I was planning to drive on the beach when I go fishing.... But instead I just learned how to fix my truck and I haven't driven in the beach yet lmao.

So my take away... The truck is only worth what you willing to pay for it. 34k is probably at the higher end of the range especially such low miles... and pays off all the hands involved. Negotiate so that 34k is out the door price for that vehicle if you have that disposable income... But my budget was 15k so... This is the path I've chosen

Edit: I missed that is a rebuilt title!? No way Bro you paying to much money for risk. Sorry, my message would have been way shorter lmao. I don't feel so bad anymore. I would not do that value on rebuilt title. Stay patient and keep looking, id say

Huge fan of the 2nd gen, we've now got 3 generations with one. Two just recently added, had mine for 17 years and minimal issues. + a 4runner in the family...

But my next investment has to be land!!!

$80 a month for insurance? Are you high or don’t have any assets?

Increase your liability coverage unless you’re dead set on ruining your life. You gotta have like 25/50 or some shit which is a joke unless you’re a drifter.

I will step off my pedestal after this, but underinsuring yourself hurts not just you but those upon you may inflict injury (intentional or not but especially if you haven’t assets in the case of serious injury).

Not admirable or something to note to others from which you presumably want to garner respect. As if $100 additional a month is a considerable sum...

FWIW: I’ve been underinsured in a serious crash. Don’t do what I did. Spend the money, no worries. Shit happens.

The Frontier is underrated and undervalued. I'd drive it till the wheels fall off unless it's just not configured the way you want. If it's a 4X2 and you want a 4X4 for example. To be fair, the Frontier is the only thing made by Nissan that I'd want, but it MIGHT be just as good as Tacoma.

This, and even if you have assets. I carry high numbers because if something does happen I prefer to not lose my house.
