I bought one of these for my 2001 v6. I discovered right away that the upper and lower-middle metal retaining clips inside the airbox are trouble. Upon initial install, I went to remove the AFE filter to make sure it was properly seated, and found the top middle clip slipped over, then hung up on, the filter frame top lip. And I shined a light into the box, and saw that the lower middle clip did the same damn thing at the bottom frame lip.
So I grabbed my 90* needle nose pliers and had to bend these clips in certain ways to stop the catching of the frame lip, while still providing the spring-loading of the clips to hold the filter in properly.
In short, if you guys have this filter, check to make sure those clips are proper. That is all.
