Took off the bed of my 08 crew cab this weekend to install a shackle flip and extended travel shocks. Discovered where the front bed mounts are I have some pretty good rust build up and the frame is splitting. I had the recall done back in 2021 and all they did was that useless spray.

I have done an absurd amount of work on this truck and I am a competent welder. In the next couple years I plan on making it an exclusive bush truck but for now it is my daily driver.

Need opinions on my best way to make this repair. There is good metal on the outer frame, the inner frame definitely has seen better days. For now I cleaned it out and covered it in fluid fluid. Attached is an obligatory photo of the truck from a few months back and pictures of the rust

I would wire brush it and clean any inside pockets of the frame out to remove loose scale and dirt.
Then I would soak it with krown or rust check every year. I would follow that up with fluid film once the krown has had a chance to soak in.
Spray cans of fluid film into the crevices and onto the top of the frame at least once a year in the fall.

I would just keep up with what you did and keep an eye on it for safety reasons. Saturate that sandwich area real good to choke off the oxygen. She’s pretty far gone to invest in it at this point , money or labor.
